Looking for something to do after the Bucks' disappointing loss in the playoffs? We have the cure. We are starting a supporters group to eventually land a Major League Soccer team in Metro Detroit. Interested? Our first meeting is next Wednesday, August 6 at Four Green Fields, 30919 Woodward at the SW corner of 13 Mile in Royal Oak. We will be deciding on a group name, our colors, and our first road trip to Columbus on Saturday, August 16, among other things. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. We will be looking for a head count shortly as this is our first meeting and we have no idea how many to expect, so advanced notice would be greatly appreciated.

I will probably not make this one, as I have made other plans (but might get cancelled at the last minute). Wouldn't you know it, the one place that is within walking distance of my house, and I'll be away.

Now having said that, I don't think that an MLS team would be coming to Detroit any time soon. The economy is still going down. (I would right now take the economy STABILIZING; just stop the bleeding, please.) And for those who said to just look at what the Tigers are drawing, of course you can't compate a team that has been here 100-some years to a new soccer team, and the Tige's had to start winning to draw people, and there are signs of dwindling attendences at Pistons, Lions, and RW games. So if I were MLS, I would pass on Motown.
