The Voltage signed 18 new players for 2007. Team has improved as the coaching staff sorts out the new roster. Surprising tie against Cape Cod indicates a better defensive unit with two subs,Malovic and Williams, impressive late off the bench helping to spark the starting eleven.

Team is playing more competitively now, but needs to improve wingplay and finishing in the final third.

Voltage stingy defense allows them to battle to ties against Albany and Ottawa on the road before falling last night at Cape Cod in the 94th minute on a hotly contested penalty kick.

Both teams scored on PK's during regulation and the game appeared to be headed to a tie when
in the 94th minute a penalty kick was awarded when a Voltage player collided with a Cape Cod player inside the box.

A last second penalty kick proved to be the difference.
Cape Cod 2, Volts 1

I was there at Barnstable High. It was a clear penalty. The Crusaders # 9 did the Voltage defender for pace down the left and was bundled over in the box.

The Voltage team protested loudly against the penalty and one guy picked up the ball and booted it out of the ground for which he was rightly red carded by the ref. It was some minutes before the penalty was actually taken.

Too bad - it was an unsavoury end to what was a pretty good match.

Thanks for posting Ausislander. Good observations.

You describe why the game was called hotly contested. The guy who picked up the ball and booted it out of the grounds and was red carded was the Vermont coach. He simply lost his composure losing in such a dramatic end to the game.

Cape Cod has a fine team who I expect to perform well in the playoffs.

Exhibition Match clip from Burlington Freepress.

"Vermont Voltage 2, FC Boston 1: At St. Albans, Jonathan Williams scored in the 89th minute to lift Vermont to its second win.

The Voltage took a 1-0 lead in the 75th minute on a goal by Bosko Cupac.

FC Boston tied the game in the 89th minute when Nolin Napier found the back of the net. Williams scored his game-winner 10 seconds later.

Scott McLoughlin of Williston made seven saves for the Voltage, who outshot FC Boston 17-8."

After this incredible last second win by Jonathan Williams, the team has since defeated Ottawa 1-0 and Rhode Island 5-1 in PDL action.

Their final pdl regular season match will be against Albany on July 25th at home.

Vermont closes out their PDL very strong with a 5-2 victory over the Albany Admirals at home with the largest crowd of the season of 2,150 reported by the Voltage website.

The Voltage won their final 4 pdl matches of the season and pulled ahead of both Ottawa and Rhode Island in the final division standings.

Good luck to Cape Cod and Brooklyn in the playoffs tonight....

The Vermont Voltage defeated the USL Division 2 side New Hampshire Phantoms 2-1 last night in exhibition.

The Voltage have now won six straight matches and turned the season completely around per a very proud Vermont coach last night.
