So this year College coaches can coach their own players. How long do you think untill PDL teams show up near most of the big soccer programs in the country? It basically turns into a extended pre-season. This way most of your players start the season in game shape.

Also what will happen when the first player transfers to a school where his PDL coach is? I think it's a good idea that they can coach, but I see some potential problems with this.

I think this is a REALLY GOOD thing if it allows more college players to play in the PDL. What is the down side again? I guess the only down side I might imagine is if the PDL gets filled with college coaches, turning it into a college training camp instead of being an opportunity for these players to experience different styles of play. Is that what you are worried about?

BTW, this was news to me, but I don't follow the college game closely. Was it a change in the NCAA rules or what? Do you have a link with more info?

The change game from the NCAA. They recognized the PDL as a Olympic development program. This is because of the U23 nature of the league. There was something on the USL site about a month or so ago. I'll see if I can find a link.

Overall I don't have a problem with there being more involvement by the college coaches. I guess the major concern is the possibilty of poaching players from differn't programs. I recently heard about about a PDL player that is transfering to a school that is closer to the PDL team that he playd for. It's more the perception of under had play that could be problem. You could get a back lash where coaches don't want their players to take part, because they may decide to transfer. Just a thought.
