RICHARDSON_An outstanding overtime goal by Matt Clark gave the Texas Spurs the win against the Houston Toros at University of Texas at Dallas field this past Saturday night.

Clark received the ball on the left side of the box and crushed the ball into the right corner of the goal to give the Spurs a 2-1 overtime victory in their home opener.

The Professional Development League's defending Mid South Division Champions started the first half confidently, holding good possession of the ball on which led to a goal in the 38th minute. As a short cross from Matt Clark landed at the feet of Thiago Lobo, who finished the play with a hard shot to the right corner of the net.

Following the goal the Spurs confidence swelled and the team created several promising chances in the last five minutes of the first half.

However, the second half started out like a different game. The Toros dictated the early play, which led to the equalizing goal by Jaime Sanchez in the 49th minute. Following the goal Spurs head coach Ed Puskarich made two substitutions, bringing Marquis Muse on for speed on the flanks and Joshua Bammel on to add height and size up front.

The Spurs shifted to a more aggressive 3-4-3 formation to add pressure and make a run at the winning goal. The change paid off as the Spurs were able to control the run of play for the remainder of the second half.

The Toros counter attack created several close chances late in the second half, but the solid defensive effort from the Spurs' Joard Odera and Eric Fenstermacher made shots on goal hard to come by for the Toros.

The next home game for the Spurs is May 12th at 2:00p.m. versus the Louisiana Outlaws at UTD.
