From the USL press release:

The PDL will maintain its four-conference, eight-division format from the 2002 season. The Central Conference will be comprised of the Great Lakes and Heartland Divisions. The Eastern Conference includes the Mid Atlantic and Northeast Divisions. The Mid South and Southeast Divisions make up the Southern Conference with the Northwest and Southwest Divisions in the Western Conference.

Twelve new teams will take the field in the PDL with four each in the Central and Western Conferences, three in the Eastern and one in the Southern.

2003 PDL Alignment

CENTRAL CONFERENCE

Great Lakes Division: Columbus*, Fort Wayne Fever*, Indiana Invaders, Kalamazoo Kingdom, Mid Michigan Bucks, Toledo*, West Michigan Edge

Heartland Division: Boulder Rapids Reserve, Chicago Fire Reserves, Des Moines Menace, Kansas City Brass, Sioux Falls SpitFire, St. Louis*, Thunder Bay Chill, Wisconsin Rebels

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Mid Atlantic Division: Chesapeake Dragons, Greenville Lions, Raleigh CASL Elite, Richmond Kickers Future, West Virginia Chaos*, Williamsburg Legacy

Northeast Division: Albany Blackwatch Highlanders*, Brooklyn Knights, Cape Cod Crusaders, Jersey Falcons, Jersey Shore Boca* (provisional), Rhode Island Stingrays, South Jersey Barons, Vermont Voltage, Worcester Kings

SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

Mid South Division: Austin Lightning, Houston Toros, Louisiana Outlaws, Memphis Express, Nashville Metros, New Orleans*, Texas Spurs

Southeast Division: Bradenton Academics, Central Florida Kraze, Cocoa Expos, Palm Beach Pumas

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Northwest Division: Abbotsford Rangers*, Calgary Storm Prospects, Cascade Surge, Spokane Shadow, Yakima Reds

Southwest Division: Fresno Fuego*, Nevada*, Orange County Blue Star, Provo*, Southern California Seahorses

I think the only surprise (at least to me) was New Orleans. I don't remember hearing them mentioned before. But then again they say the mind is the first to go, or was it the free kick.

Gone are the Seattle Sounders Select men, probably victims of cost cutting at the Sounders club. Apparently sponsors didn't step up to support the amateur side.
