Based on M/1's well regarded reputation in this League EVERYONE on these Boards knows the answers to the above questions already - so I've WON MY BET - but the JERKS can't even muster up the guts to even answer the 2 questions...

And the Mariners were removed from one hotel by the police the day after the first game they played there in June and sent to another the morning of the second match. They then sat in the lobby for a long time waiting for rooms. Great hospitality in PR!

Mariner1 seems to have stirred a small hornet's nest.

I wonder why he saw fit to publicly embarrass Puerto Rico instead of seeking input from Tim Holt? On the other hand, I wonder if all teams who have visited Puerto Rico have been shown the same level of hospitality as (appears to have been) experienced by the Mariners, and if any of them have expressed their concerns to the League office? No one expects a "sauna", but is it unreasonable to expect a bed on which to sleep in a secure area? Maybe Puerto Rico needs to pay a little more attention to their host hotel situation.

And the implication that conflicts on these boards would be tied to anything race-related is ridiculous. The old race card was drawn pretty quickly.

I'd hate to think that Puerto Rico would provide sub-standard accommodations for visiting teams and then turn around and stiff the VB owner for breakfast on his home turf.

Regardless, there aren't many of us who have the facts. I, for one, would rather VB's and PR's instant rivalry had been created under different circumstances, but as one of my excellent teachers once said, "conflict is good", so you should all take it for what it's worth. Let the front offices straighten it out. Put it behind. This is just another one of those behind-the-scenes situations (actually this one is right up front) that come up on a regular basis that the League has to deal with.

I guess that ends my stream of consciousness for now.

Well, unless you never read the Mariners' boards you might pick up that Mike Field does not exactly have a 'well regarded reputation' throughout the entire league. Some folks in VB have called him out on what they see as unfulfilled promises. I have to agree with Dan B that those questions are not going to be answered on these boards, nor should they, nor should they or any complaints be addressed on this forum by members of the Mariners' organization. M1 constantly brings up the "growing pains" as the reason that the Mariners' franchise has fallen short on certain things - but no one has even mentioned it as a possibility for PR, a group that has started from scratch just this season. I hated watching the Mariners lose the other night, but I hate more seeing lack of professionalism from the club I have supported since it began.

When a man tries to correct a wrong by informing the other party about the circumstances so that it could be corrected, then that is laudable;

When a man tries to decry the inequities and the irresponsibilities which led to the failure of a planned event, then that would be understandable;

When a charity is deprived of a scheduled event and are robbed of their chance to meet their benefactors because of some circumstances and this one man stands up to speak for them, to lambast those who had done such things to the activities planned for the meek and underprivileged, then that is noble.

Granted this is not the forum for these kinds of discussions. But words and phrases have been written in these boards which were bourne out of anger, outright lies and aggressive deception yet we harbor such bluntly and ill-formed forms of speach as acceptable by the community. But now, we hear of some truths or even half-truths, or unvalidated statements and we all explode in anger as to why. Give it a break!

I'd rather have M1 here with us, discussing things for we very well know that these discusssions will have closure, and a very good closure at that. that's if we let them run their course. The man is comfortable sharing his views with his fellow afficionados in here. Let it be.

We're better off that we have people like M1 who would discourse with us on any topic and be sure that he'll come back with an answer for you, be it bad or good. He was just but a voice for those in charity who could not muster the strenght to tell the others that what they did affected a very special event for very special kids.

Let's not make it into a fan war, Let's make it a a war to win fans towards soccer. even fans who are less privileged.

Mountain Dew, Thanks for such balanced perspective. In both this thread and the original thread I mentioned the fact that our club has a lot to learn because we are new. Brand spanking new. That is not an excuse for anything & everything.

As an Islanders fan, I intend to hold our club's management accountable for whatever mistakes that we have made and to try to right our wrongs as best as possible. WE MUST LEARN AS TO AVOID THESE SORT OF MISTAKES IN THE FUTURE. I don't want our club to have a bad reputation. We need to correct some things. I'm sure of that. I feel very badly about some of these accusations regarding the hotel accomodations. I also feel badly about the charity event and the dollars lost; under any circumstances, that is a shame...

M/1 is one of the great men in this League - the failure of PR fans to know this is really atrocious - The story is all right here on The Boards for you to read - Shame on you for not respecting the men who went before you & made the League that took you in.

El cheapo PR franchise f*cks up the Battery's season tying them twice and beating them twice. One of these beatings was specially delivered at their own home turf.

The newcomers PR Islanders showed no respect for the Rodney Dangerfield's of the A-League, the Charleston Battery and made them eat sh*t twice, once in PR and once at home. "These guys are a bunch of comedians, how they got to be champions in 2003, beats me" said someone in the parking lot of the J.R. Loubriel Stadium in PR.

The two loses rattled them so much that from that point on in the season the team became "impotent". They lost the capacity to win in the league and went on a loosing spree that seems to have no end.

The A-League executives are studying ways to create a tenth or eleventh position in the league's standing without increasing the amount of teams in order to accommodate the plunging thrust of the Beattery.

First (and hopefully last) time I've ever taken up for Buck, but as much as I can not stand 'Buck the poster', he has always been more than willing to meet other posters in person. He even made an effort to meet the CornerKicks during the 2002 playoffs and believe me a lot of us had it out with him on the boards prior. Perhaps because the Kickers were about to eliminate his team from the playoffs but he was actually sort of, well, humble. And he has a reputation of taking good care of visitors to Charleston. Why he feels the need to be such a jerk on these boards is just way beyond my comprehension, because he actually isn't that bad in person. With all the bad names I could easily come up with for him that would fit perfectly, coward is not one of them.

Sorry JB about the resurection, but I'm new to the boards and ran across that post bashing the whole Battery family. Islanders' fans have nothing against The Battery. My man just said those things in the heat of being pi@@ed off. Still, that doesn't make it OK. The Charleston Battery is a great club with a storied history and great fans. A lot of us are actually interested in the Islanders trying to be like the Battery some day. To get that kind of respect. To build that kind of history.

So, although I did not make the statement, my sincerest, personal apologies to any Battery fans that were offended. It's not right to dis a franchise and all of it's fans just because of one bitter loser.
