Syracuse rubs salt in Lynx\'s wounds "They (the Salty Dogs) weren't very good," said tireless Lynx midfielder Robbie Aristodemo, one of a handful of Toronto players who played with passion.
"They were probably the worst team I've played in three years. They packed it in (on defence), just like Montreal did (in a 2-0 win over the Lynx on Saturday) and they countered and scored. Then, you're in trouble. Once you get down on this field, it's hard to get back."Also this: "I'm awfully disappointed," said Lynx general manager/coach Peter Pinizzotto, whose team travels to Syracuse to play in the Salty Dogs' inaugural home opener Saturday. "We lost to what I would say is an average team."Hmmm, bitter, are we? Listen, it's all about the GAME. If you can't turn all that skill you have on paper into goals to win the game, as Mr. T would say, YO CHATTA DON'T MATTA. Besides, it's not the Dogs' fault that Centennial is a lousy stadium. I guess tomorrow we'll see if the Lynx lose to a really bad team for the second time in a row. SG

Actually Robbie should be frustrated because the Lynx have played horrible the LAST TWO YEARS - not just the last 2 matches. They suck.

Heh, that's funny. Every pro athlete should know that badmouthing a team before a match usually backfires.
Watching Wednesday's game though, I agree with the "average" comment. Syracuse don't have any players who stand out as exceptional, and they certainly don't play attacking soccer (only 1 shot in the entire first half).
The difference between the Salty Dogs and the Lynx (and the reason Syracuse keeps winning) is that they play as a team and have a really good coach.
In my opinion, the Lynx have an edge in individual skill, but are relying too much on individual effort, carrying the ball up instead of passing back when they need to. The possession game they play only works if you have midfielders that are good passers.
Just my 2 cents. Any 'Salty' fans who saw Saturday's game have the same opinion?

Hmmm... Pop Quiz:
Question: Who is the only player in the A-League to have scored a hat-trick this year?
Answer: Gabriel Valencia, #14, forward for the Salty Dogs, May 17 at home vs Toronto.
Question: Who is tied for second in goals scored (right behind Dante Washington)?
Answer: Gabriel Valencia, with 5 (in 3 games!). (Bonus points if you knew he's tied with Thiago Martins of the Riverhounds... but it's not quite fair, as Valencia has played 3 times, and Martins 5.)
Question: One goalkeeper in each division has 2 shutouts. Which 'keeper from the Northeast has 2?
Answer: Paul Nagy, of Syracuse. (I happen to think he's the reason Syracuse beat Toronto on Wednesday.)
Question: Who is tied for the lead in goals allowed per match?
Answer: Paul Nagy is tied with Michael Franks of the Whitecaps... both have allowed just one goal in 3 games.
Now, what were you saying about no stand out players?
