The guy down the road is easy to get up for...but who is the biggest non-regional rival for your club?

I am not sure that I can answer that one for the Seattle Sounders. I guess it comes down to either Montreal or Minnesota.

Montreal: 2 straight playoff battles.
Minnesota: Last team to stop the Sounders from reaching the Final (2003).

Unfortunately, with the drop to USLD2, the Kickers no longer have "non-regional" rivals.

From all the teams, beating Montreal at their home would be nicer than beating any other team. Just because I dont like the Pizolito guy, and their coach with no class. :p

After ole' biter Billy came to town last season, I might have to go with the Rhinos.

Or maybe the Impact.

Charleston Battery. I think for five consecutive years the two teams traded places for first and second at the top of whichever division they were placed in, and then they started signing our old players and letting them score against us. We always had fun with the players during games too, and of course there was always BUCK vs BigDave.

The Mariners rivalry had more of a kid brother feeling to it, with their frequent finance/ownership struggles and inability to acquire the JR Cup. It's a cruel irony that they now reside a division above us.

Looking beyond the South, then it was probably the Rhinos. Some reasons are obvious, but we always enjoyed knocking them out of the play-offs or thrashing their hiney's in front of a TV audience.

As the Royals & Majestics don't get to play them anymore can I claim the Charlotte Evils ?

Mind you the players and organization are ok, it is the know nothing fans that irritate. In that way they are so like Man Ure back home.

For the Hammerheads, I would have to say the Long Island Rough Riders.

I think for a lot of people it's Montreal.....I know the last time they played in Portland there was quite a scuffle.

As usual, my main man, pr'rican is right:
I freaking hate Pizzo and I still haven't forgotten nor forgiven De Santis' punk move when he insulted Maradonna's brother (unless Maradonna called him something like "hijo de p***" first).

I wish that Pizzo decided to play indoor in the MISL this season so that I could go see him when he came to Baltimore and heckle him to death. I'd make a huge poster telling him how much Puerto Rico hates him and get down front by the player entrance to the field or the bench to be sure that he would see it and hear me. I wish I had the cash so that could be down in PR when the Impact go down. I would love leading the fanticada as we attempted to harrass him and De Santis like it was the last and most important match that the Islanders would ever play... I would love to meet the Impact at the airport with a small group of supporters and let those two know the minute they landed that they are not welcome in Puerto Rico and will not be until apologies are rendered. mad

This question was easier when El Paso was around. Everybody hated playing them.

I don't think many Thunder fans hated El Paso. For me I always enjoyed how their style of play matched up with Minnesota... Of course Minnesota usually beat them so that might have had something to do with my opinion of them.

As for non-regional rival I'd say its still Rochester. Last year the matches with Seattle were pretty fierce and if they continue the same this year I could see a strong rivalry growing there but for now its still Rhinos.

Isn't every rivalry non-regional for you guys? At least until Milwaukee get another franchise.

Atlanta and Charleston already a regional rivalry though - hence the Southern Derby

How do we even rate high enough to be a "rival" to the Timbers.

We are obviously moving up in the world. smile

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Some injuries from those hacks still have not fully healed.
