We all got wumped today!

The Calgary Storm's adopted club, Hereford United, did quite well, taking a Division Two club into extra time, but what a way to give the three points away.

Scarbrough (adopted by the Toronto Lynx) also went to overtime, eventually losing to Doncaster in the 22nd minute of extra time.

Southport's star striker Steve Whiteall scored a hat-trick for the Sandgrounders, but unfortunately it wasn't enough, as they went on to lose 4-3 to lowly Conference strugglers Leigh RMI, thanks to an own-goal. Kind of funny, really, as Southport (adopted by the Vancouver Whitecaps) beat Leigh in league action by a scoreline of 6-0 just the other week!

But what a day for the Montreal Impact's Morecambe... travelling to Third Division club Shrewsbury Town (who have a stadium named "Gay Meadows") and getting routed 3-0. Betcha they wished they picked Margate instead! wink

I've adopted 2 conference sides, Leigh and Telford United. Nicky Spooner was our captain and played with us for 2 years then went to Leigh. Last season we picked up Jake Edwards from Telford so they're my new adopted team. Currently, Leigh and Telford are propping up the table, both in the relegation zone. I really know how to pick 'em.

You're welcome to get involved in our competition if you like. Being from SC, I assume you're a Charlotte Eagles supporters?

If your entire supporters club can settle upon a Conference club, I'll throw you into the pile.

Damn Canucks. I thought K-Head had a better training program than that.

I'll try to be a Southern Gentleman. My good friend from the north, the mighty Charlotte Eagles hail from the great state of North Carolina, while my beloved Charleston Battery are home based in the cradle of the south, i.e. South Carolina. These are in fact, 2 separate states, not different geographic areas of the same state. Alas, folks from North Dakota, West Virginia, et. al. know of what I speak.

As far as joining your fine competition, the supporters in the Regiment don't see each other much in the off season and most of them do not frequent these boards or the internet. So, I will quietly support my favorite Conference sides and curse my bad luck for becoming aligned with those 2 sorry squads.

I realize NC and SC are different states... I just didn't know which one was home to Charlotte.

Quick - which province is Regina in? wink

Alrighty. The competition is open to any other A-League supporters clubs.

Our goal is to have as many Conference/A-League partnerships as possible, as a way of keeping the A-League rivalries alive during the off-season. The Conference league ends in late April, just a week or two before the new A-League season begins, so it all works out quite nicely.

Training program?!?

Hell, it's hard getting most Whitecaps supporters in Vancouver to actually like each other, let alone training 'em!

No problem. Based on our SAT scores, I doubt 50% of South Carolina high school students know that Charlotte is not in their home state.

In any event, since I'm basically the lone ranger of the Regiment Supporters Club and a board member to boot, I will speak with complete authority by the powers vested in me. Sign us up for your competition. Leigh RMI can be Regiment (South) and Telford the designated Regiment (North) squad. Anything that pits North vs. South is OK by us.

This weekend both my teams maintain their current form with losses.

Leigh crashed out of the 4th round of qualifying for the FA Cup against Dr. Martens side Moor Green, score: 2-1. A victory would have put them in the FA Cup proper and also put a much needed £20,000 into the checking account.

For Telford, same Cup competition, same result. They lose 2-0 to fellow Conference power, Doncaster Rovers. Their play can hardly get any worse. They may not win again this season. They've had shutout losses the last 4 straight and 6 out of the last seven. A win against Conference doormat Kettering Town being their only victory and goals scored in the last month.

Okay, give the CornerKicks Burton Albion - Leigh Cowlishaw's old team. Unless there are any objections from my fellow fans.

This could be a banner weekend for my 2 clubs, Leigh & Telford. In a odd twist of fate, the 4 basement squads face off in the Dual Toilet Bowl Derby.

P Team Pld Pts
19 Leigh RMI 16 16
20 Woking 16 16
21 Telford Utd 16 14
22 Kettering 16 10

Leigh hosts Kettering and Telford entertains Woking. If any of these juggernauts are able to haul in 3 points, it would make for a banner weekend.

BTW, finally found some pretty good stat info on football365.com for the conference (go to the bottom of the page for additional links): http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/FC/overview.html

In particular, the attendance figures make the conference about equal to the A-League.

UP THE LEYTHERS !!
LET'S GO YOU BUCKS !!

Not that anyone particularly cares but this past weekend, Leigh shared the spoils (appropriate noun for these 2 clubs) with Kettering after a 2-2 finale and Telford managed a mighty 1-0 victory over Woking, simply because, according to the Telford fans, Woking cared less about the match than the Bucks. These results leave my 2 adopted clubs with only their noses barely above the regulation waterline.
