Eight seasons and the team is done, don't any of you care?

Where's Alex with a postmortem?

Is pro soccer history in Indianapolis?

Anyone? Anyone?

I care but the last time I got on here to complain about it you attacked me for whining. I'm very upset over loosing soccer in Indy. Each year until the desaster of last season attendance had gradually gone up dispite the fact that the media gave them no coverage whatsoever and that the owners continued to put a very poor product on the pitch ( 3-23-2 ) If you are going to spend 7 years funding something don't bail on it when the numbers are improving, and if you don;t have the money to do it right don't do it at all, fail at it and make the market even less desirable to someone else in the future. Alex's heart' I'm sure, was in the right place but I will never understand how anyone can expect to sell a product when they do ZERO to prmote it and when the put a poor team on the field. You have to advertise your product and this does cost money. If you don't have money to advertise you don't have money to run a pro sports franchise. All the blame can not fall on the fans. I am in contact with many people everyday and it is rare when I find someone that even knew we had a pro soccer team' much less lost one. Thanks for listening. I'm through whining for now.

blast fans??

are there any blast fans? i don't think so.

what really bothers me, is that after alex sold the team to the "new investors", they were supposed to right the sinking ship.

all that happened, is that they limped through the PDL season and then went away without so much as a blurb in the paper, or website.

how could they just fold up the team without making any announcement?

indy deserves better. and i really hope that one day we can get another pro soccer team here.

I thought Blast fans would be rooting for the Invaders or the Fever by now.

we get absolutely no coverage of the invaders in indy. the only things i know about them are from the internet. it's hard to support a team that i'll never see or read about locally.

and, with all respect, i don't see myself supporting a wnba team soon.

Are you kidding ? We couldn't get that worthless rag of a paper (The Indpls Star who if it improved a lot would suck) to cover the Blast much less keep us up on whats happening with the Invaiders . The media in Indianapolis seems to think that if it doesn't involve the Colts (Perenial playoff choke artist, team effort) The Pacers ( who after facing a lot of self inflicted adversity, Thank you Ron Artest ) have quit.Exhibit a blowing a 19 point lead in the 2nd half to a glorified cba team like Toronto,Thank you Stephen Jackson.Exhibit B folding in the clutch against Philly. Thanks again Stevie. Or the Race. We have now lost pro hockey, pro soccer and Arena Football, but you wouldn't know we even had them much less lost them if you depended on the local media to keep us informed. If you were a fan of any of these teams we lost call the Star and cancel it. Call the local TV stations and let them know when the sports news comes on you will be turning them off.

Got that right. The Star never commented on the Blast's games. Now they are dead. Now THAT'S a lesson in too little, too late.

I forgot to mention this, but I knew the Blast, the Firebirds, & the Ice were going down. Why?

1. The Blast have NEVER been good. In the A-Legue, we were the LA Clppers of soccer (take a moment to realize that I'm referring to the stereotype of the Clippers). In the PDL Reunion Tour, they never were good, either.

2. When someone folds, then comes back, they are dead when their miserable season ends.

3. The Firebirds owner didn't know how to keep money in the team wallet.

4. The Ice owner bailed on us. However, Paul Sjkodt (or whatever his last name is) gave us an amatuer team. This has lead to good attenednce in the 11-team USHL because of the talent. Heck, the Indiana Ice (USHL name) has more references than the Indy Ice (CHL version).

5. The Blast play worse than the athletic teams at my high school (we were the one with a 37-game football losing streak). And we are REALLY bad!

When the Blast came here, they seemed very competitive, in fact I still have the scoresheets. They played a defensive game, losing 1-0 in their last visit. I've also noticed some pretty impressive crowds of over 2,000 at Kuntz Stadium, while I'm sure that was not always the case, some even over 3,000. We needed overtime to beat them(3-2) in our last visit before over 5,000(a team record).
I'm sorry to see them gone too. As I have stated before, even though they finished at the amateur level, better to have a team than none at all. I hope that big time soccer does return to the Indianapolis area. I notice that some former Blast players are now playing in Cincinnati for the new Kings.
