My apologies to you mate on making you a Yank. The rules of the game do not change regardless if the referees make a mistake or not. If I were a member of the American side, down one goal and a ball caroomed off a German arm I would be bloody well screaming for a handball. The player did not play the ball with his arm. If you know the rules and being a countryman I am sure you do, the ball must be DELIBERATELY PLAYED BY THE PLAYER WITH HIS HAND(INCLUDES ANYTHING AS YOU CORRECTLY POINTED OUT BELOW THE SHOULDER). Fact is that did not happen. Another fact is the ball did not come anywhere going over the touchline for a goal if you saw the game. Another Yank prayer thrown into the mix to get either a goal or a PK. The referees no call was gutsy, sheer brilliance under the circumstances and correct in every aspect. Yes, I have seen referees in the Premiership and youth leagues of Britain make handball calls. Some have been spot on and others have been sheer rubbish. This one was correct. The worst calls in the WC were reserved for the linesman sent home with four or five offsides calls and the replays showed he was dead wrong on all accounts. The PK awarded to Brazil against Turkey was one of the worst field calls since Maradonas hand of God goal against our side in the WC that received a no call. What utter bilge that was. The Brazil flop occured a good two to three yards outside the 18 and should have been a direct free. PK awarded, goal, win for Brazil. Referees are human and make bad calls. In my opinion the no call for Germany was as it should be. I see you are a Spurs fan. Do you go back to Greaves, Blanchflower, Mackay, White, and Brown and their wonderful coach Nicolson at White Hart. Sterling group and what prolific scorers they had with Brown, Greaves and Blanchflower. Good to see you on the board and hope to see you again. I shall be in and out as time allows. dabby

Sterling responses on the first three supporter. Remember that Paddy Crerand played for the Under 23 national side for Scotland and was born in Scotland and not eligible for England by FIFA rules, and Best was Irish and played for their youth program and not eligible to play for the England side. Dig deeper on five. You are in the right group and he was a grand friend of Sir Bobbys. I often wonder what England might have had with Giggs and the two Keanes on their side. dabby

One more aside supporter, remember that Shay Brennan had moved to defense with Nobby and Tony Dunne. The man missing in three played for Scotlands national team and was devastating on the pitch when he combined with Bobby and George. Hint: his nickname was the "Hawk" well done though mate well done. dabby

Come on mate you bout have it. Law is in 3. Cannot play for England as he is a Scot and played in Scotlands youth side. Think of Englands WC team. Charlton is obviously correct, the other was a striker who is in one of your answers already and the last WC player was a little [censored] of the walk defender who was knighted and his real name was Norbert. The last one was the last remaining part time center half starter and a survivor of the Munich plane crash. Initials BF. Bobby said he was most proud of all this player had gone through in rehab and come back to win a table championship and win against Benfica. I applaud your tenacity. A true footie fan. dabby

Grand attempt mate. Charlton, Nobby and your answer to number 1 played on WC Your last man BF is the answer to number 5. Well done in sorting it out. I noticed from your profile you are an Indianapolis person therefore an American. I love the way you tried to sort it all out and you do have some good background of Man Utd. Is Man Utd popular in your home area? Nice thing about England. We have a club for everyone over hear and they all are quite rabid in their allegiances. Good show though supporter. Especially number three with the ones you came up with and Herd was the icing along with Crerand. Good show lad good show. dabby

I barely knew anything about Man Utd yesterday; I just like to do research. Now I know a lot more. I especially liked Denis Howell's commentary on the 1966 World Cup. I took extra time to read the whole thing. It is a thrilling and detailed account. If you are interested go to http://ds.dial.pipex.com/bob.dunning/howell.htm

And it's lass, dabby, not lad.

Then it is good show love and well done. Lass is a Scotch term and we Brits rarely use it. Love is a term for ladies and also an endearing term. Since I do not know you well enough to use it in the latter sense, it will be used as a term denoting your womanhood. Nevertheless, I applaud and admire your persistence. Man U are a good side as are Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Leeds, and others. As I posted earlier, seems to be something here for everyone who loves the game. Best regards to you and good luck in your pursuance of footie knowlege. dabby

Dabby, Im 22. However i have watched the spurs complete history video many times and i have many books.

I have watched the old UEFA cup videos and the F.A cup final win in the year of my birth in 1981.

I also know spurs were the first team to do the double in the 1900's. i think if i recall it was 61...not to sure now.

I watched tapes of ozzie, villia, blanchflower etc etc.

But was only old enough to understand and recall names around the time of gazza, lineker (1991).

I liked watching hoddle and waddle on tape.

Greaves was a great player and my most recent fav is Ginola.

Klinsmann was a god at the lane and the best player i have ever seen in my life time.
