I saw that Game on the television. I have never seen anything like that Scorpion Kick of Rene's and may be never will again. Tried to recreate it kicking around with pals and ended up nearly breaking my jaw smile .

I'm a young'in, so I never saw the game in question, but after seeing that replay, I have to say that that's the greatest save ever made. Even the most outstanding diving save cannot compare for one reason alone: balls! If you miss saving an incredible goal you(the keeper)are not blamed. You are celebrated and revered if you make the save, but no one ever holds you responsible if you miss. If Hagitta had screwed up that save, there would have been hell to pay. That guy was either very good, or very stupid, or a lot of both! Unbelievable stuff!

(what was the situation in the game? close? friendly or competition?)

Wow, have never seen anything like that and don't think any sane keeper should use it. First rule of a keeper is to gain possession. I will give him credit for doing it though. Takes real hutzpah and an understanding coach. Definitely not what I thought it was. Was looking for the modern day version of the old nutmeg. Thanks for the photo and the new method. Would prefer the old. gforever

Reread your post and went to the site. TOTALLY AWESOME. What timing and guts, especially in front of the English. They would have ragged him off the field if he had blown that one. Probably his countrymen would have killed him also. When did this take place. Wembley has been shut down for some time so it had to be in the 90's. gforever

Still waiting for our illustrious visitor and Manufan to take my quiz. Cat got your tongue Manufan or just in over your head. I am after all just a Gerrie and we don't know much about football compared to you who invented the game. Await your quiz result sir and good luck although if you are as good as you think you are on Man U and football in general it should be very easy. At least I know when I don't know. laugh laugh gforever

Now mate we are being a bit cheeky aren't we? I shall have a go at this but have to admit you have done a fine job constructing it.
1. My guess would be Brazil as it dominated the fifties in football and won the WC in 58.
2. Leeds and the coach was Revie
3. Young Charlie George and Ray Clemance keeper
4. Hard one here mate. I know only four, Taylor, Edwards, Pegg and Whelan. Do not know the team they played in Europe but would venture Real
5. That should be Bobby Moore as he had tremendous respect for him as did Pele. There is photo famous I believe with Bobby and Pele embracing at the 70 Cup. Either Bobby or Pele.
6. Charlton and the reason is that the Germans had to put Beckenbauer on him to take away his scoring potential. It worked but they did not count on Hurst who had been inserted into the England side.
7. Would go with Zidane here as he is a national hero after the WC victory and still a great favorite in European football. Keep me posted on the answers. Your knowlege of football is very good and you could be an Englishman. Me mum would kill me for that one. Cheers manufan

Higguita did this in a friendly game against england, maybe just before euro 96 or a little after, i remember tring to do the same when i was in school, couldnt do it.

The play itself went something like this, Redknapp took the shot...from an offside postion...higgutia claimed to have not seen the flag or have heard the whilst...so if he had have missed he thought it would have been a goal.

He was doing some in the warm up to the game, but no came off.

Just azaming bit of show boating i think.

Gforever, I'm only going to take a stab at 4 & 5 as I've speent WAY too much time on these although it has been fun.

4. Roger Byrne, Mark Jones, Duncan Edwards, Eddie Coleman, Tommy Taylor, Liam Whelan, David Pegg, and Geoff Bent. They had just played Red Star Belgrade in Yugoslavia in the 2nd leg of the European Cup Quarter Finals. They drew the game 3-3 but went through 5-4 on aggregate. For a great history go to http://www.thebusbybabes.com/.

5. I dont know but I would guess George Best with Denis Law a close 2nd.

Cheers!

Ok I have to put my own quiz in this.

1. What was the first year wembely drew over 200,000 to the F.A Cup Final?

2. How were most of the fans removed and what is the nickname for that cup final...easy one if you know your f.a cup final history.

3.What is the Full name of the F.A Cup.

4.Who was the first team to put ribbons on the F.A cup?

5.Who has the quickest goal in the english premier league?

6.who has the quickest goal in an F.A Cup final and who was it against?

7.All english people should know this, what team is claimed the only league team to win the "world cup" and why?

8.This is a who am kind of quiz: My height is 6'2, I started my carear at TB Gingen and have 3 youth caps for my nation, i was born on 7.30.64, my chairmen in england claimed he wouldnt wash his car with my jersey, i returned a few laters and saved them from a gross christain and going into the 1st division?

9.After Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal...who has won the most english league championships?

10.Which A-league player has an F.A Cup winners medal, whilst playing with the "CRAZY GANG"?

11.who has scored the fastest hatrick in football history and for what club?

12.who is the only english born manager to win the premiership title.

Ok that should do it, some are easy and there are a couple that should even test G-Forever. smile

Let's get mine out of the way so all can concentrate on JFLs. Great one by the way.
1. Hungary from 1950-56 only lost one international not counting West Germany in the WC in 54
2. Leeds with Revie
3. George and Clemence
4. Pegg, Edwards, Whelan, Byrne, Colman, Jones, Taylor, and Bent and you are right it was Belgrade Red Star
5. This one was for you DP it was Duncan Edwards
6. Charlton and to keep him from trashing the German side. It also took Beckenbauer out of their offense. Edwards was voted the best by the English with Cantona, Best, and Charlton in the top five.
7. Platini was the Frenchman just voted by France as their greatest, Zidane came in second. For some odd reason, Laurent Blanc is in the top five. The man is a sieve for a defender. gforever
