Brenda the linguist wants to know.... what does the G stand for? It sounds like you're talking about NUPL not GNU which sounds like a body part, not a water buffalo or an operating system.

Why does a GNU need a public license?

Are you sure you want to know the ways of the geek? 'Cause it doesn't get much more hard core than Richard Stallman. You've been warned.

GNU

GNU is a recursive acronym, so the G doesn't actually stand for anything. It stands for "GNU's Not Unix"
Check Wikipedia for 'recursive acronym' and you'll find the full definition, plus a list of examples. They were basically created by crazy computer types who decided to make fun of the rules of acronyms. (Really annoying for me, as a technical writer/editor!)

Bit more random trivia: it's actually pronounced "G-noo" not "gnu" like the wildebeest.

Awesome!

We immediately went from "MILF" to a discussion of the benefits of open source.

This is the greatest supporters group ever.

And the saddest as well. Let's see, what shall we talk about, MILF or open source? Milf or open source?

We chose open source ....... and linguistics. Arghhhhhh!

Remember that discussion we had a couple of months back about nerds and dorks? I am reminded of that today!

Anyways, great work everyone! I am super excited for next year.

Based on the 56-person standing section for the playoff game, we all need to bring 5ish friends to get to Hoppy's 300 target. That gives us all something to work on for the coming winter! I have my personal targets--think of yours too.

I love this group of geeks!
What are we going to do in the off-season?

I was at the FO the other day, and they mentioned Copa Minnesota, but didn't know anything yet. So there's still hope, but nothing definite yet.
