As it is a Karaoke night, I'm not sure the Sweetwater will be the best option, given the results we had for the Guatemala game.
However, I have not made any call(s) to determine this.

Karaoke starts at 9, right? Game should be over by then, I would think.

U-20 will be but the Copa game between Mexico and Argentina kicks off at at 7:30 central on GolTV & Univision. So that will go to 9:30 at least.

Sounds like a plan to me. I will see y'all there. Originally posted by bq: U-20 will be but the Copa game between Mexico and Argentina kicks off at at 7:30 central on GolTV & Univision. So that will go to 9:30 at least. As long as the singin' don't start until after the U-20 game, I'm cool with that. Because: A) I'd like to see the Mex/Arg match, but probably wouldn't devote 100% attention to it anyway B) I know lots of folks love him, but personally, I'd rather listen to a middle aged biker chick do a rockingly horrific version of Love Is A Battlefield than listen to Ray Hudson for more than 2 minutes. I bet Ray Hudson would be an awesome karaoke singer though - I picture him doing some early Rod Stewart or something.

I went and looked up Ray Hudson on Wikipedia, because..... ..... I'm not really sure why, but they've got a list of some of his quotes on there. My Favorites:
"This team was as dangerous as my grandmother knitting a quilt."
"He needs to be on his tippy-toes, like a midget at a urinal."
and
"Cheekier than a monkey in a monkey tree."

I wonder what Hudson would have to say about the dodgy U.S. win last night. However, bottom line is, we won! Next game: Quarter final, US v Austria Looks like game time is 1:15 Saturday July 14th. You can keep an eye on who's left in the tourney and when they are playing at FIFA's official U-20 World Cup site. So there was talk of a watch party again. Sweetwater? Anything would have to be better than that totally surreal experience last night of the really bad karaoker's singing really bad 1950's and 60's pop tunes while grampa is letting lose all his aggressions on those poor video animals while he was violently pumping them full of lead. I thought I was on a bad trip there for a while. Very strange indeed. Oh yea, and two more things. Don't let Ross fool you. He's not so shy...well, at least in the heat of battle. Ross, you know what we mean. And Thunder 06, he can sing a mean karaoke track. Lastly, I was talking to the older dude in the white hat that was doing the karaoke thing last night. Yea, I know what your thinking. Yes, he was older than me smart as*es. Anyway, he told me that was the most soccer he had ever watched and was totally getting into the match at the end of the game. Hooray karaoke, hooray football, hooray beer. Here's to football and strange times.

Here's to football and strange times. Well, I'm not shy toward bastard-*** biased Uzbek refs. Putin-wannabes, ALL OF 'EM! (I mean, if he were Turkmen, I could call him a Saparmurat Niyazov-wannabe, but you know... ...then I'd have to read the Ruhnama three times. ) Sorry for the "salty language," as Bruce put it. I really try to curb that, in all situations; and I DEFINITELY don't 'saltily' shout at Thunder games, what with kids around, and all. The karaoke was a definite....'atmosphere enhancer,' but it was also fun. Thunder 06 blew the lid off the place! It was really nice to put so many names with so many faces. Thanks. No Hot Nuts, though: where was Lightning Striker? I definitely plan on being back at Sweetwater Saturday.

Sorry I couldn't make it last night! Hope you all got by w/o the HOT NUTS! Now that I've got you all hooked on 'em, I pull out the supply Sounds like the kareoke really added an element to the festivities ... maybe not ALL bad, even if some of the singing was.

Sounds like the kareoke really added an element to the festivities ... maybe not ALL bad, even if some of the singing was. Actually, a LOT of the singing was bad. But, they didn't bitch when we screamed over goals or crappy calls. It was a pretty peaceful environment, really. And there was one guy who went to play the deer hunting game next to our table with his grandson twice. He was real cool about making sure that they weren't blocking my view (not even close). I appreciated that. And it's easy enough to tune out karaoke: who needs TV commentary, when you're sitting at a table with a bunch of running-commentary wise-asses like Bruce, bq, the two Steves... Still, I'd like to pretend the reason I didn't stay for the end of the Arg-Mex game was because the result wasn't in doubt. ...But the truth is, there was a particularly awful rendition of one of those particularly awful songs..."children are our future," or "wind beneath my wings." (wait, are those the same song?) I had to get out...

("wind beneath," not "don't stop," to be clear.) My NOT-singing is proof-positive that I love humanity, and don't want it to suffer due to me.

I recall the 2005 USOC run which was on Wednesday nights ... there were a couple of players who even stepped up to the mic ... Oh, that 2005 USOC run was incredible! I can't wait for the club to get back into that form.

I have some great video from those Wednesday nights in 2005, but I'm afraid if I posted the best one, Narnian would start spreading vicious lies about me to my in-laws.

I had a blast hanging with everybody even if we lost.
Best and weirdest moments: the bar falling silent during the Beckham/Bush commercial. The ball gets passed to Tim Ward and everybody moans in frustration. To be fair to Mr. Ward though I believe he sent the through pass that set up Adu's final chance.
