I don't understand this policy of posting only links?

At my work place our company network administrators have to approve all new websites, so I can't even go to the links on most posts without first asking for the new site to be approved.

These are not long articles and there should be no reason why they can't be reproduced when the proper credit is given to the person who wrote it.

What's the reason for not allowing it?

Hey jw7,

Proper credit at the very least involves a link to the article, which is not being done. Sites post articles and want to be able to reflect the traffic their articles produce. If articles are posted in their entirety on other sites, that traffic never appears.

I'm sorry your company has a tight web access policy, but that does not drive how I run mine.

I have had more than one occasion in the past to be contacted by publishing sites requesting short intros and links as described above, or not allowing reproduction at all.

Part of how you react when you run a site is from the legal aspect, and another part is the ethical aspect.

If something has been allowed to be [b]reproduced with permission[\b], noting all of that is required and you have to be able to back up that given permission.

Lastly, I have to govern with the same rules throughout. While I can understand and appreciate your predicament, making exceptions for one means no rules for all.

Thanks for understanding, even if it isn't what you want to hear.

Cheers,
Dan

I understand there are legal aspects to running this site, but I still don't know what is right and wrong. I will not list whole articles anymore, but I never knew this could be a problem...

You listed this policy under the heading Video policy above and talked about the USL live site reproduction.

My question is in my thread, Quote from Liverpool, is it ok to use just the quotes if they are from the AP? The quotes are in many other articles and multiple sources not just from one place...

I wanted to make a list of all the quotes the players and coaches made as the season came to a close. I find it interesting to have them all in one spot and see the back and forth banter between the two teams.

You ask that things be removed?? What needs to be removed?

jw7,

This has been gone over in the past, but before your time laugh , so that's why you were not aware of it.

That was the easy place to put it, and they are two separate items. I'll tweak that to make that more separated.

Quotes or partial posts with links are absolutely no problem at all.

The key item that is an issue is posting complete articles.

On the removed question I meant for those posts that were complete articles. To tweak them to become just the first paragraph or so, followed by a link to the complete article online UNLESS the site has a blanket statement saying permission is granted for reproduction on other sites.

In that case, it is fine to post the complete article along with a link back to the site. It must also include the line "Reprinted With Permission".

Thanks for the understanding. I do all of this out of my own pocket, so I need to pay attention to any issues that could come back and bite me wink .

Cheers,
Dan
