http://www.soccerbyives.net/2013/01/minnesota-signs-nasl-mvp-campos.htmlThe Minnesota Stars are under new ownership, and the signs of that new ownership group’s influence are starting to show.
The Stars have been known for fielding one of the best teams in the NASL on a consistent basis under head coach Manny Lagos despite not having the financial backing of an owner. Now, with new Stars owner Bill McGuire backing the team, the Stars look poised to build a powerhouse.
Enter Pablo Campos, the reigning NASL MVP. The Stars are set to sign Campos to a new deal, snatching the free agent away from the San Antonio Scorpions , sources told SBI on Sunday.
Campos scored 20 goals for the Scorpions to win the NASL Golden Boot and MVP honors. A former Real Salt Lake forward, Campos is expected to be joined on the Minnesota squad by midfielder Bryan Arguez, who is also expected to be signed by the Stars in the coming days.
What do you think of these developments? See anybody stopping Minnesota in the NASL this year?

In fairness, he had something like a 20 to 1 goals to headbutts ratio last year.

I expect we are not done hearing about some very nice signings. Can't wait till the legal stuff is done with the Stars and we start hearing officially about all of this.

Yeah, we might be looking at some fantasy football stuff here. We might have to spend some time adjusting to not being the underdogs all the time.

I'm waiting for someone to talk about how the league is stoooopid for allowing this signing to happen, until then I'm stoked. Just like the Sanchez signing!

I was thinking the same thing. This [censored] team. From the things I've heard we'll nigh be competitive with MLS squads. LET THE KRAKEN RISE.

I expect we are not done hearing about some very nice signings. Can't wait till the legal stuff is done with the Stars and we start hearing officially about all of this. BQ - you seem to have a better handle on this than some of us - do you have any sense of when this "ironing out of legal details" might be finished? It would be nice to get started with actual news so there can start to be some buzz built up about the start of the season. Regarding Campos - assuming this pans out, I'm sure I'll come around eventually (probably the first time he scores). But for now, I can't say I'm thrilled. Would he still have to serve a suspension for the first game based on his playoff red card? First game is vs San Antonio, correct?

With Pablo in the line-up, I am not sure playing at the Dome is a good idea. I do not think his ego can fit inside the 60 million cubic feet of space.

We love you Pablo, we do. We love you Pablo, we do. We love you Pablo, we do. Now that you're a Blue.
We should get him thermal undershirts, as a welcome gift. But make sure they are the kind you can write wee messages on.

He seems an enormous man-baby with a proven track record of putting goals away. I can learn to live with the first part if the second part is true.
That said, there's a part of me that really enjoys being the underdog... the scrappy little team with the thin wallet and big dreams. It's a hopelessly romantic picture of what is, after all a professional sport, but I loved the upsets, the incredulous announcers at away games and the wary respect we got from richer teams.
If we pour money into the team and lose that... I'll be sad. That's unreasonable and unfair to many people at the Stars, but still... I much preferred 2002 Man City to 2008 Man City.

No one is talking Man City here. I get what you're saying, but when it comes down to it, I want a damned good team.

If we managed to get Sattler, Campos and Barbara? That's a lot of the stand-out players in the league.
But it is a silly, niggling thing to get hung up on and I'll get over it when I see the opposition coaches crying.

Not me and none of the supporters I know do. Been a City fan since the 96-97 season thanks to my college roommate who grew up a couple of miles away from Maine Road. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be a fan of the sport. If it wasn't for that cash injection at the time. City was close to doing a Portsmouth.

[Poster's Note: Disclaimer On in full measure. The following is based on his posts alone and is not meant to be taken as a total evaluation of his life.]
"You all owe me a beer and some hot nuts for reading the tea leaves correctly." - Soccer Boy
And with this 16 word sentence, he achieves escape velocity.
Freed of the gravitational forces of rationality and proportion, he rockets away from relevancy as a few onlookers casually wonder, "How long can someone survive alone out there after jettisoning every last molecule of credibility?"
Then, after a half-moment's silence and a collective shrug of their shoulders, they all turn their attention back to the far more interesting and entertaining people and events that lay just ahead.

Barbara is a really nice guy. I actually got to know him a bit while playing for Carolina and doing some interviews and podcasts with him. He granted me the interview that got him some attention when he felt locked out by Montreal who where holding his MLS discovery rights but not willing to pay him much, therefore keeping him from signing for what he probably should have been making. A deal was then struck with Vancouver and we know what happened after that.
So one thing you will find with Etienne, even though he is a very nice guy, he will sometimes speak his mind and think later. It's something I'm sure Manny will have to keep an eye on. But I trust he will embrace the Stars supporters. Oh, and he really also enjoys fancy cars.

It's like they drafted him from behind the goal. Next, they'll put Jim Oliver on the pitch.
