I understand that the game is being played at speed, but when you watch it, even in real time, Hamilton made a decision to go in for a hard challenge. I can't judge premeditation, but the "intent" is the challenge its self.
Reactionary on my part? Heck no. Commissioner Downs needs to do the right thing and make Hamilton sit for a while and take money out of his pay check.

I agree 100%
Fine his ass big time because it involved the head. That "challenge" was a reckless act.
Make him sit on the bench and watch the game until he has learned the correct behavior. Just like we do with the little kids who don't understand the difference between aggressive yet safe play, and dangerous stupid plays that could end someone else's career...
His learning process needs more work! We have proof of that.

In coaching we talk about the difference between ability and skill when evaluating players performances.
The difference in the two is that to be skilled you have to be able to preform while under real game pressures.
When a player has the ability but applies it wrong then he still lacks the correct skill.
Performance (which are based on learned decisions) can be corrected very easily, we do it on the training field every time we go out there. It is what we base our training session on; correcting technique, correcting tactics (behaviors/decisions) and correcting fitness issues.
That is what management is: Identifying problems and providing solutions to obtain the stated goal.
Our goal in soccer entertainment is to have fun and not hurt anyone else while doing that.

I will forever stand by my position that he deserves to be sanctioned with additional games and financially. Nasty, nasty hit! It was almost Todd Bertuzzi-ish.
Reactionary? HELL NO!

Watching it again just makes me sick. A "full blooded attempt to go for the ball?" WTF was that announcer thinking? Geison had already played the ball? From behind? Inexcusable!!!
That is how you end a person's playing career!!!

Here is a great video to watch for all you wannabe refs, who don't think Hamilton deserves a red/additional punishment. Watch the first seven minutes, and then Law 12.

My problem with the play is that Moura is only playing the ball while Hamilton is playing ball and opponent. Hamilton could have avoided that. Moura could not.
That is a very reckless play from Hamilton.
I don't ever remember Paul Hamilton being a dirty player, so he is not a psycho of Pablo Campos level, but its just an awful play on his part.

I get that it's a red card, I just think all the evidence I keep hearing about for *intent* is wrong. It's reckless, it's dumb, it's a red card. End of histrionics.
