NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Brooklyn Knights opened their Premier Development League season with a 2-1 victory over the Westchester Flames last weekend.

Forward Stefan Dimitrov netted the first goal of the year in the 19th minute on an assist from defender Lukas Fedler before following it up with an unassisted goal in the 37th minute.

Dimitrov led the Blue and Gold with five shots on goal while playing all 90 minutes as forward Jose Batista recorded one shot. Defender Kyle McTurk and midfielder Kevin Correa each put two shots on goal.

After Jake Keegen scored a goal via a penalty kick in the 45th minute to bring Westchester within one goal, goalkeeper Stefan Manz kept the Flames at bay for the remainder of the game as he saved 10 of the 11 shots of goal that he faced.

"I'm stoked to get three points on the road and very pleased with the fighting spirit we showed," Knights coach Andreas Lindberg said. "We played decent at times and Dimitrov showed top class on his two goals."

PEMBROKE, Bermuda – The Brooklyn Knights remained unbeaten as they secured a road point by playing the Bermuda Hogges FC to a 1-1 tie in a Premier Development League game on Sunday.

Knights forward Stefan Dimitrov converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute to secure the draw in the Mid-Atlantic Division matchup, which had only five shots put on goal by both teams.

Brooklyn stayed undefeated at 2-0-1 with seven points while the Hogges moved to 0-0-2.

“Playing Bermuda away is always a difficult game and to get a point on the road is very satisfying,” Knights coach Andreas Lindberg saod

In a game in which the score can be attributed to the defensive prowess of both squads, neither team was able to get a clean shot on goal in the first half. Brooklyn and Bermuda were whistled for a combined 14 fouls during the opening 45 minutes.

Midfielder Angelo Simmons found the back of the net on a penalty kick, giving the Hogges a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute.

With the game winding down, Dimitrov drilled his penalty kick for the Blue and White to equalize.

Knights goalkeeper Stefan Manz save two of the three shots he faced in the half.

“We have seven points in three road games,” Lindberg said. “We are looking forward to hosting Reading in our first home game next weekend with the hopes of continuing the success we have had so far this season.”

The Brooklyn Knights will host to Reading United AC at the Met Oval in Maspeth, Queen on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Josh Hakala just tweeted that the Brooklyn Knights have apparently folded out of the USL PDL in order to concentrate on youth development.

Bummer! I was hoping to see a few more matches at the Met Oval this year. Especially the Rough Rider's away match there.
