Saturday, May 5th, 2012 Minnesota Stars FC vs Atlanta Silverbacks 7:30pm @ National Sports Center
---
Pending Items: -What time are coals going to be started? -Home Opener II Tifo (Pfutz?). I'll be buying out another Party-Warehouse's streamer collection. Flares? Smoke Bombs? -Who has all the tifo from first home opener? What time do we need to set-up for flags/banners? -Still need 2-3 songs for the song sheet. And yes, MNNiceFC, Neil's "Taka-daaaa, taka-daaaa" has been added.

I am graduating from college up in Bemidji on Friday so it will be interesting if i can make, I sure hope I can. If I am there I will probably be hungover or still drunk.

90% of the flags we were waving are in my garage along with our EZ-ups and sundry other stuff (like the Cheeseburgers two-poler). I'll be bringing a pickup load of crap up to the stadium around 3, then once I've gotten all that stuff dumped someplace I'll go grab things for me to eat and drink and stuff. If I have to light the coals, they should be ready around 4/4:30.

I was up at the NSC to catch a little training action, pick up my season tickets (and beer glasses) and shag some balls knocked over the net. The beer garden is coming along. I think the NSC is going to do a great job. The pitch also looks to be in great condition. They dropped some sod in the Technical Areas and also along the lines (were the ARs run on the touchline) and also in the GK box areas. Come on you Stars.

So... I got a keg for the pedal pub today and they accidentally gave me a 16 GAL instead of the 8 GAL.
Ill be bringing about 10 gal of Sam Adams to the game.

YEEEEEES! How can we sneak this into the game? walk it in like we own the place? That's what we usually do...

Ernest held his own in the center of the back line tonight and even scored the winning goal. Good stuff Ernest! Ibarra (and Venegas) worked hard and used their speed to say on the right side of the ball going in both directions and Ibarra sealed the deal with the second goal of the game with a great finish off a creative play inside the box by Taka. Van Oekel made a couple of huge saves to keep another clean sheet. We are really looking like a complete team, one that completes the job of working hard in both directions with and without the ball. We still need a bit more work on the pressure/cover roles/work rate of the two central backs. We seem to get lazy back there at least once in every game so far. Defenders should be able to play 90 minutes without losing concentration and without making a large mistake each game. The system is conservative and based around good defending, but the players are choosing the times to go forward, and the others around them respond to the change in shape when the time is on to shift players forward. The attack has more then just one dominate element, it can and does change during the game. New player enter the game and it still works well... Still a bit rough around the edges overall, but some very good patterns to build on with a lot of time still ahead.

That was a very satisfying win after last weeks frustrating tie game at Atlanta.
I especially liked how our guys all kept their cool while Atlanta was melting down all over the field. In some ways they were lucky to only have 2 guys see red cards. They were nut jobs.
And it was fun to be back in our midfield seats at the Nessie!

This was probably the most satisfying thing from last night to me. Got some different guys some playing time, and didn't seem to miss much of a beat. Seems like the depth on the team is getting better, which is always a good sign. Great to see Captain Kyle Altman (and his tassled loafers) come over and hang out with the Dark Clouds for a bit. Also props to the (actual, physical) dark clouds that threatened the horizon menacingly, but then saw fit not to drench us. That was nice.

Yeah, they were the worst behaved team I've seen in a while and easily the most wound up. Foul play and bad sportsmanshp from them which fortunately did them absolutely no good. Danny Illyes took time out of his busy ball-fumbling schedule to tell me to f*** off, and Martina Lancaster made hand gestures at me as he walked slowly off the field - specifically the talking hand gesture, which is kind of funny because I was heckling him... so yeah, I'm aware that I'm talking genius. I'd have replied in kind, but I don't know the hand gesture for "Ljungskile Reject". Next time their here, we should really try to wind them up, because calm professionals they are not.

We should start a halftime tradition of standing near the tunnel and telling Atlanta who great they are and why they need a leader like Jonny Steele.

When I was walking back from getting Bud Lime-a-ritas (which tasted about as expected) I happened to be walking around the corner when Carien was taking one and let him have an earful from 2-3 ft away though didn't get the same reaction. Nothing like being made fun of by a man in a giant Nessy outfit eh?

Apparently the south end was on tv last night. I'm waiting for Kare11 to post their 10pm broadcast, because it has shots of the second goal and, horrifically, Nessie's head flopping off as I jump around a little too vigourously.

Remember that we need to create individual threads for each team. I want to remember all this Atlanta stuff for when they come back. "Ljungskile Reject" is too good to not use!

NASL has game video up NASL.com, click Schedule, then choose the Match Recap/Videos from the game.

Hmm, I didn't see it on the posting of the 10pm slot. Maybe I got the station wrong.

Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwQPxrJBbL8lol at Amani Walker being a mile offside on that shot before the half. We looked strong, excited for this Sunday's game.
