The main on-the-pitch goal for every team in the league is to win the league championship, and the Stars we're the only team in the league to do that, while every other club in the league did not. That makes the Stars the best team in the league until some other team wins it or the Stars are eliminated from the chance to retain it.

You could prattle on about regular season record, time of possession, playing style, number of players on the all-star team, or any number of other factors that you could use to evalute the relative placement of the rest of the teams in the league. You might even use them to rank current champions against former ones. Or even champions of various organizations.

But that's not what the shills from Atlanta were doing. They were simply revealing that they couldn't see or understand how the Stars could do what they did against their team and the rest of the league.

But the Minnesota Stars ARE the champs. And they remain the champs until someone takes it from them. And a champion, by the very definition of the word as it relates to sport, isn't average. Because the average athlete or athletic team doesn't win a championship. However they did it, through talent, smarts, guts or combination thereof, they raised themselves above the average and reached the pinnacle of their sphere of athleticism.

If you think an average team or athlete can win a championship, then the concept of champion means nothing, signifies nothing. It renders the goal of winning a championship meaningless. If winning a championship doesn't mark you, for the time you hold it, as the best of your class, so to speak, then what is the point?

This is all cool... but I'm reasonably certain that they said we were "average" for most of the year and almost didn't make the playoffs, but then had a great run in the playoffs.

Which is true.

if there were 8 teams last year and we finished the season #6, doesn't that makes us below average?

Ask any Patriots fan that question.

All that matters is Lombardi.

As for announcer debate. They're not pros. Hell, even pros get crap for being annoying (lookin' at you Harkes). I just get bored with the complaining. Edmonton had good announcers and still there were complaints. Atlanta's announcers weren't terrible, they were fun to make fun of. I was much more annoyed with the camera direction (why cut to a close up of the keeper AFTER he kicks the goal kick?), which actually affected my enjoyment of the game.
Are people really shocked to hear that an announcer for ATL was slightly pro-Atlanta and that he referred to our mediocre season that was capped by an amazing play-off run as average? I guess I don't care enough about things to whine. Or, I'd rather talk about Justin Davis or make fun of the announcers than to feel personally aggrieved.

Seamonster; no, it would make our regular season below average. So they were being polite, really.

yup,yup

I didn't catch the Edmonton game but was our right side attack as poor in that game with Rodriguez playing as it was in the ATL game with Chin/Venegas? While Chin had a few decent chances late in the first he seemed out of place for most of the half, while Venegas I don't remember his name coming up other than when he was subbed on.

I love our team.

Our team barely made the playoffs last year.

But they made it, and then went RED HOT!

It was glorious.

The Atlanta announcers were homers. I fully expect that. I hope our team's announcers are homers.

This season our defense has given up 6 goals in the past 2 games. That is a scary situation. They can't keep up that pace and expect to win or tie many games.

The team has 4 points in the last two games, but with a few small bobbles they could have 0.

Great effort to grab the 4. Better effort needed to continue this streak.

Amen. The defense looked solid for the first two games. Maybe with Altman back?

Despite my initial fears that Van Oekel was going to be a liability (based, somewhat unfairly on the few times we saw him fill in for Joe) he has shown some crazy skill and made some amazing saves. He has still been scored on 6 times, so, not ideal. Those defensive breakdowns in the last game were painful to watch.

That said, when we've been pressed, we've answered. Del Do's rush to collect the ball from the net after scoring last Saturday was indicative of their will to keep fighting. Fantastic stuff.

Sadly,

all those who are okay with the Atlanta announcers criticisms and critiques of the Stars and their players have either forgotten or have never learned one of the most important tenets of soccer fandom, the Stratton-Schoenstein Axiom, also known as the Otter-Boon Precept or simply, Delta's First Law:
