My stay in D1/Washington DC will be a short one, in June/July I'll be moving to Charlotte NC to open another new alpine ski/bike/running store for my company.

I'm going to be back in the USL/D3 again... crazy

I have moved to more soccer towns in the last 6 years than a slow outside midfield player with poor endurance.

91-99 Vail, CO -Colorado Rapids (D1)
99-05 Mammoth, CA -LA Galaxy (D1)
05-07 Bellingham, WA -Vancouver Whitecaps (D2)
07-08*(+Summers)St Paul, MN -Minnesota Thunder/Stars FC (D2)
W09 Crans Montana, Switzerland -Sion FC (D1)
W10 Salt Lake, UT -Real Salt Lake (D1)
W11 Tampa Bay, FL -Tampa Bay Rowdies (D2)
W12 Arlington, VA/DC - DC United (D1)
S12-? Charlotte NC -Charlotte Eagles (D3)

Apparently I'll root for any team with a ball and 11 players.

Truth be told MLS is over rated. The prices are too high. The crowds are too big. They make you pay for parking. And then they expect you to sit in just one seat for the whole game, what is up with that? The play in MLS is filled with almost as many player mistakes as D2 and D3. The cost per mistake ratio is way out of balance in MLS.

I like the smaller stadiums with a lot of room to move around, I like knowing 30% of the fans at the games, I must admit that. cool

JW - I have known Mark for a lot of years now and he is a super solid guy. This has been the slowest start they have had in a long time. Hopefully they can turn it around.

I wondered why DCU was turning it around this year. Should have known you left:-)

I am a bit surprised by their slow start. They are definately a better team than their record shows.

I try to make it up for the Battery/Eagles matches so maybe Ill see you when the Battery visits again later this year.

of course if you make it down to charleston (about three hours, easy drive once you get out of charlotte) let me know and Ill buy you a beer

yeah Charlotte's had it rough the past few years. You used to could count on them to be one of the top 2 or 3 year in and year out, but not lately. I wonder whats happened.

Mark must be a good guy, this is his sixteenth year as the Eagles coach after all. He is the Sir Alex of the Carolinas (well except the part about him being from NY).

I'm sure I'll get to Charleston to check out The Three Lions Pub and Blackbaud stadium the first privately funded soccer specific stadium in the United States. Also Charleston looks to have the easiest beaches to get to from Charlotte. And I do like to float around in my sea kayak now and again...

I'm sure I will also get to Cary and WakeMed a few times (to watch the Stars... And a few ACC games) at some point. Rumor has it that our next store will be in that area. Personally I'm hoping to end up in Asheville at some point down the road.

The Central Atlantic area is the home to some great soccer at many different levels. I'm just starting to understand how rich the history of soccer is in this area and how manny great players have been developed from this region.

I've done a bit of kayaking over the years and just starting getting into kayak fishing, so if you need some tips on where to go or put in let me know. Lots of intercoastal waterways for some easy paddling too.

What a great list of soccer venues. I hope you make it. Ack to the Twin Cities this summer to check out the new beer garden. It is starting to take shape and should be nice.
