Which side are you on boys? Which side are you on?
They say in Ramsey County There are no neutrals there You'll either be a Stars fan Or a thug with frosted hair (verse changes depending on opposing team)
Which side are you on boys? Which side are you on? Tell me which side are you on boys? Which side are you on?
My captains name is Altman My keepers Joe Warren They'll be with you fellow supports Until this game is won
Which side are you on boys? Which side are you on? Tell me which side are you on? Which side are you on?
Oh workers can you stand it? Oh tell me how you can Will you be a lousy scab Or will you be a man?
Which side are you on boys? Which side are you on? (eliminate verse for brevity, if someone wants to make it into a verse--cool)
Come all you good supports Good news to you I'll tell Of how the good old Stars Have won the N-A-S-L Cup
Which side are you on boys? Which side are you on?

Brad, I think that song is great and you should just cut everything except the chorus and first verse (maybe one other). Singing songs with verses means looking away from the game and I hate doing that (plus it means always having song sheets). But I think this is perfect.
Also, I plan on singing this song in its entirety all season long. No lyrics changed. If you don't already know it by heart, I feel bad for you son. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTvhWVTwRnM
I think its time to revive an old friend now that we have a proper winger on the squad again.
When Martin goes marching down the wing, Hurah, Hurah When Martin goes marching down the wing, Hurah, Hurah When Martin goes marching down the wing, The Stars fans will stand and sing, 'cus we all know that Martin is gonna score.

I rather liked viejo Tino, but I can adapt to nuevo Tino... or el Nuevo Nunez (but that's a little too logical for us)
it always takes me a while to figure out the new guys each season once the roster is set, and I don't worry about it too much before then

Good point Wes. Fixed. I'm not crazy about the second verse, there are lots of other good verses which could be subbed.

Also, when the Stars occasionally fall behind I think there's a lot of good sense in singing the chorus to Dear Landlord's "Three to the Beach."

OK, I'll be the wet blanket. Way back in the Thunder days, before even ole' One Shoes, the F.O. asked us to refrain from profanity in any organized chants, etc and that policy has served us relatively well. It keeps people off our back a little bit and it makes us a little more inclusive. So, I hope that either we find substitutes for a couple of words or don't do this as in the East stands.

I agree with JJE - if we keep it clean, we can get away with more other stuff (like flares), so we balance out our jackassery. Let them think we're all really nice.

I see the Chicago Fire are playing the Montreal Impact for the Fire's home opener. I encouraged my Section 8 friends to make a banner that says "Fake Canadians," and chant, "Adam, Adam, Give us a meltdown!"
I will be watching to see if this happens!

Well our eyes, Watching the stars one at a time, I lost the words I'm clutching on your hand tight, Wear a small sweater and it looks nice, I never felt better.
Then the North Star, Guiding us home in your friend's car, Will we ever take a chance or will we restart? The sky is a map that's guiding back to my heart.
Then the North Star, Guiding us home in your friend's car, Follow the North Star, It's leading you back into my heart.
And then we're hoooooommmmeeeeee When we hit the city limits don't forget me for a minute tonight.
All I'm saying is that I've never heard a song so sum up my nostalgia for attending a Stars game.
First of all, I think everything about this video is awesome, but second of all, I think the song/chant/organized grunting they do starting about 25 seconds in is effing brilliant. I think with the horn section we have we could really rock the stands with this one.

I think this is awesome. But what is the melody? It's hard to figure out how to replicate something like that. Also, how are they getting the red flashes?
Also, in terms of song additions I have one suggestion: songs with verses don't tend to work. I'm thinking of Pfutz's suggestion, which seems particularly appropriate to Minnesota Stars fans singing, but it would be impossible to bring into the song repertoire, I think. Think simple. We want it to be so natural that we can sing it and yell it while we're watching the game. Neil also suggested that we get some recordings up so people can learn things. Are there particular versions of songs/chants that we think we need recorded? Some I can do on my own. For others, I am going to do some field recording at a few of our games this year and we can get good version up on the internet machine.
I for one am going to do my damnedest to get The Turtles' "Happy Together" sung out this year, so start listening to that (if you don't have that song memorized, then I feel bad for you). That and we never made good on our promise to sing The Beastie Boys' Sure Shot.

Wes, I think you have a valid point in many verses being difficult to implement, however it's much easier if the tune/harmony is clear. My favorite song (outside of /the team that nobody wanted/) is Ballad of Bracalello, which is verse heavy.
Team connected DCs, is there a reason the song sheet isn't directly linked on the MN Stars FC website? It'd probably be a good idea to have a source for it (if I was a random on the far side and wanted to look them up I'd go to the website FANZONE).
EDIT: I'm an idiot I see it there now.

I agree with you guys. Everyone once and a while, those big verse songs rock. I mean, Electrical Banana! I think the tendency is to suggest big projects, but as we've seen some of the best are the short, on-the-fly songs. For example, "Whining Fana" to the tune of the Fanta jingle? Damn that's funny.
Also, I want to sing this: "Oh where oh where is Jonny Steele Oh where oh where can he be? He should have been your captain and where is Martin Rennie?"

One of the best D2 chants against a player formerly in MLS is, "'INSERT NAME OF TEAM' Reject!" I wonder if the Impact will be hearing the chant, "NASL Rejects" during the course of the season. They were after all "relegated" by failing to make the play-offs.

Agreed. We should just find a good time to sing it regularly. Towards the end of a match we're comfortably winning would be perfect, but I don't want to count on that being too common an occurrence (too many years supporting MN teams....)

Alright so change is bad and all, but can we change the last line of the "I am an NSC Fan" song to "I wanna be Stars F.C." instead of "I wanna be NSC" just to incorporate the new name into the song?

You know, it's honestly time for us to start finding people to volunteer to do this stuff.
Who wants to get us some video of this crap so we can start isolating the audio and get on that fanchants.co.uk site?
Also, I should advise those of you that might volunteer that I fully intended to do some of that while I was at the Chicago Fire home opener on Saturday, but whatever that purple stuff the Polish guys drink made me forget... everything.

Hence the phone reminder schedule to kick off 15 minutes into game time.
I may have trouble holding it steady.
Also a friendly reminder that whatever you're ordering online for the game should be done by end of week.

For the short term, I think just finding a video with the tune next to a set of the lyrics would be fine. E.G. Sex Pistols next to "I wanna be Stars F.C." (<- See what I did there... I'm fully up to date on the message boards) and Beastie Boys next to "Goals".

Twenty eleven yeah, what a run! Fort Lauderdale, hey, the stars won! Fort Lauderdale, hey, the stars won! We needed the cup cause we had none Fort Lauderdale, hey, the stars won! Fort Lauderdale, hey, the stars won!
Flew to florida and it rained so bad Never saw the sun But it’s the best result we’ve ever had Fort Lauderdale, hey, the stars won! Fort Lauderdale, hey, the stars won!
Also, for when someone gets red carded (to the tune of rock the casbah):
The ref he don’t like it! Send his ass off! Send his ass off!
Maybe at the start of the game, just before the anthem and lineups
I really like the idea of singing When You Wish Upon A Star as the players walk out. I'll print up a bunch of copies of the lyrics and bring them to the Dome.

I kind of like the drone possibilities of L'Etoile Du Nord. It's two iambic feet, so you've got a set-up syllable followed by a longer vowel that's good for holding.

I was listening to a mix I had made for the tailgate today (Bruce took care of music anyway) and had a few songs that I hadn't heard in a while. Not that these are inclusions for songs to sing, but if you haven't heard Billy Bragg's love-making football metaphor of Boy Done Good, you should: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xab1Z8DqjE
Then I was listening to Pulp's Common People and thought the chorus at 3:05 is a pretty great song for the supporters: "Sing a-long with the common people!" But add that to the list of 30 songs it would be funny sing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuTMWgOduFM&ob=av2e

KJ- I like the beginning of that clip with the clapping. I have found that I enjoy clapping routines in addition to singing. They are fun and are easy to get other people involved.
We can interject NSC and STARS FC intermittently.

KJ's the only one i know of that knows Everywhere We Go but also Beatin' Your Defenders, Can We Play You Every Week, drunken sailor tune and the knick knack paddy whack song. and i didn't even realize hot nuts had a second verse.

Can someone send me a copy of the editable DC Songbook? It needs to be updated with a few pieces from here and I have time to do it today.
Also I'd like to take a few minutes and review the additions before the home game while we're tailgating. If your song is added you should come up and sing the tune.

I think we can do the my sharona song without horns and add easy verses.
Simone's gonna score a goal, score a goal Simone's gonna score a goal (Minnesota) Lucas gonna set him up, set him up Lucas gonna set him up (Minnesota)
etc...
Also, whenever we try to do the White Stripes song there is conflict over how we make it Minnesotan. My preference is Oh-oh-oh-Min-e-soooo-ta , but I think others do something else (Crist does "oh-oh-go-Min-e-soooo-ta, not that different). Thoughts? Preferences?

I compressed everything down thoughtfully and have an empty column on the back side (2-3 songs) available.

I still don't understand the reason for putting on the Simple Chants. Do people really need lyrics for those? Also, what is the Gold and Blue? I've never heard that.

I can clearly recall someone telling me (in 2005) that they thought we were saying "you'll never beat Ju-War-Ez" (Freddy Juarez) and we were total morons (well, actually, that part wasn't too far off) when we were singing about, of course, Joe Warren. So yeah, it can be useful to have the simple chants on there.

the simple chants are also on there just to remind people that they exist.

Sure, but do we really need this: **Here we go here we go here we go.** And will anyone hear the song and then look to the songsheet for clarification, thus matching it with these words? **Min-uh-so-tah Goal! Oh-oh-oh-oh-oooooh** Also, this? **Stand up, if you love the stars (repeat)**
I only bring this up, because it seems like a waste of space.

Happy May Day!
We would start with the chorus to get everyone on track like normal:
The Cup and the Dark Clouds
We will win (We will win) bye and bye (bye and bye), Raise that glorious cup in the sky (way up high), Stand on chairs (stand on chairs) Light the flares (light the flares) The nuts of a warrior, side-by-side (side-by-side!)
With hot nuts and Surley follow the Stars, At the N-S-C and travel from a-far, And when asked on the chance of defeat We will answer in voices so sweet
We will win (We will win) bye and bye (bye and bye), Raise that glorious cup in the sky (way up high), Stand on chairs (stand on chairs) Light the flares (light the flares) The nuts of a warrior, side-by-side (side-by-side!)
And the Dark Clouds supporters, we play And we sing and we clap and we sway Pounding away with Ludwig the drum Till our feet, hands, and ears all go numb.

I might have given it a thought if I didn't hate Wilco as much as i do. It's annoying enough the Duluth mayor has a thing for them, made them an honorary Duluth band, (allowing to play in the coveted Homegrown Music Festival)and gave them a makeshift Key to the City. Plus all the elitist music shins that come to town when Wilco decides to grace us with their presence. So in all, not a bad idea. I can see where you were going there, but I won't be participating.
And anyone else going to watch this video to see what the end result of the picture is, just don't. It's a seagull.

For those of you who still can't remember the lyrics when Wes isn't there, replace 'sedated' with 'Venegas' I wanna be Venegas Got it? You have until the 11th. No excuses.

Because that was a lot more fun to write than it would be to sing.

Oh and I'm a fan of the Venagas one as well. a little tricky to learn but I think that would be one that people who don't know the words can at least join in on the chorus.

No, I've known the Ramones' version word for word since I was 16. I was agreeing with KJ that we should use pfutz's version and saying to grump that while new fans may have a hard time learning it, they at least know the chorus.

Had to dig this thread up to ask a question -
I really enjoyed the "We've got nuts of a warrior" to the tune of We're not gonna take it. But I could never tell what people were singing for the last line (and it seemed like there were at least 2 different things at times). Can anyone clarify?
We've got nuts of a warrior Oh, nuts of a warrior We've got nuts of a warrior ... something else goes here ...
also, it seems like we should be able to come up withe something to fill in the
