It's been rumored for a couple weeks but it's official now,
http://www.dcunited.com/press-releas...kstra-acquired

Great guy and hopefully one of the trialist in camp will step up as they have some pretty big shoes to fill!

Best of luck Andrew, unless your playing against the Battery!

DC United #1 Goalkeeper Bill Hamid wasn't named to the USA roster ahead of friendlies and qualifier.

That means that Dykstra might continue his loan with us.

DC signed an experienced Dyksta as #3 when it looked like Hamid would be on the Olympic Squad but when they failed to make the tourney, Dykstra became available to us.

Barring any injury to the two keepers in DC, Dykstra could remain with us deep into the season... which could help with the development of our two rookie keepers.

Well I just jinxed it... looks like Dykstra is headed to DC:

United notes: Second-choice goalkeeper Joe Willis might not return to the active roster next week after suffering an eye injury in training.

well that will suck as I don't think either of our two keepers are ready yet.

Perhaps we'll see another loaner if he does go back.

In the paper, Augie said Dykstra was on DCU's Open Cup roster so he's tied to them thru the whole tourney. Damn them. And he said we've signed Brock Duckworth, who played for Wilmington last season. Is that the same guy we've used before? I'm guessing it is. How many out of work Willytown GKs can there be? In any event, I hope we score early, have 3 or 4 in the bag by halftime so we can cruise. I remember 1 year we played a PDL or amateur team and it was like 0-0 or 1-0 for most of the match and we were on pins and needles.

we have the keeper from Myrtle Beach coming and Bunky Wichman's son Joseph is the back up tonight. He plays for the Academy team and Wando.

I've been meaning to ask, how does an amateur get to play with pros? Doesn't the Nazi Committee Against Athletes (aka NCAA) frown on that sort of thing or is he not planning on playing college ball?

Brockworth plays for MB mutiny

And I can keep up with the NCAA rule modifications and rules but I do know that they made it easier for a amateur player to train with pros and not get penalized for it. Or in the case of some of the SC Battery United players, play with the pros (as long as they don't earn anything) prior to attending college.

Duckworth is a fairly decent keeper. He was prone to the occasional rookie brain fart with Wilmington last season. But I was really surprised when they didn't re-sign him.

The NCAA eligibility is not invalidated as Joe Wichmann is not playing college (yet) and has signed as an amateur. Likely will ride bench unless Duckworth gets injured or there is sufficient goal buffer to risk a 17 year old onto the field.
What a fun summer for a kid who had NO idea this was coming until day before yesterday!
Don't know if Battery has signed a player this young before.??

Might have wished they had him last night since the Cali amateurs put 4 past their current keeper. That was the most shocking result for me from USOC round 2. I bet Coach Irving is livid.

Yes - Nico Rittmeyer from Savannah - a great kid and great player. Clark Brisson and the SCU Battery Academy have done a fantastic job developing players and then providing them with opportunities like playing for the Battery.

Wonder if we will see any other Academy players coming up over the summer (read: Hamilton Carlin)?

Nico last year was great and I didn't think he looked out of place.

There were a few that trained during the player trials and I thought they did well enough.

The experience for this kids is great. Just to suit up against a guy like Henry would put me over the moon!

The MBFC Mutiny are a Pro team in the NPSL, and as I understand it no NCAA eligible players can play WITH a pro team, but it's perfectly alright to play with an amateur team AGAINST pro teams. I think the NPSL may have more of these pro teams in the future.

The Mutiny and Battery have come to some sort of loan agreement with Duckworth-- Cody Ellison has already been loaned to MB earlier this season and I wouldn't be surprised if other Charleston bench players come north to the Grand Strand to get some game time.

The Wilmington keeper who always seemed to get loaned to Charleston was Kyle Polak (now the Hammers back-up and GK Coach.) I think he may have been there earlier this year.

the NCAA rules are a minefield and while the recent changes made it possible for amateurs to play with pros they can only do it before they reach NCAA eligibility. I remember seeing a discussion somewhere that explained fairly well. but I can find it now.

Polak played as the back up this year up in Richmond for our first match. Klasila is close to coming back but don't know the exact date.
