I'm not going to dismiss the guy just because I haven't heard his name. (I have heard him on The Current, but don't listen often enough to know names.)
If he can help us spread the gospel of soccer, and put some new faces in the stands, I'll remember his name. I'll even buy him a beer!

We've got lot's of connections to Mark Wheat and he's been supportive in the past though getting him out to games seems tough. All it takes is a song request when he's on and link it to the team and he'll probably talk about it a little bit. Back when we were in St. Paul and singing "Dirty Old Town" by the Pogues he brought in his own copy from home a week after I requested it and mentioned an upcoming Thunder game.

The Thunder or the Stars (don't remember which year it was) had a push on the Current, but I'm not sure how successful it was.

I only listen to 93X and ESPN/AM1500. Beyond that I do not turn on the radio.

I think the Stars were doing some stuff on the Current the last two years.

By the way, I forgot to mention that in driving home from the Sweetwater after we won the cup, the Current was playing Wonderwall in honor of us winning.

We have content about the Home Opener we can write into a press release, that can be a component of a press kit. This could include tickets to the game, a scarf or two (dark clouds+stars) and some background information on the team and their history—possibly burned copies of the video series Brave New Media did.

Press kits make a significant difference in media relations. Creating an "Experience" with the information (opening the package and seeing all the cool stuff) increases the likelihood and quality of reporting.

I think Mark Wheat is a good target because he likes soccer and appeals to a demographic that is currently being targeted by successful soccer franchises in the US.

There's no reason you couldn't do a few of these though, for multiple outlets.

The board is already working on press kits for the Dark Clouds and Brave New Media's next Shine On when they have time to finish it is oriented around the Dark Clouds. We've been given permission to use it for something like this and the home opener is a perfect time to get this out there.

Well, I've worked on plenty of press kits, and I'd be stoked to help out if you ever need it.

Mark Wheat?

GOD NO.

PLEASE DO NOT INVITE HIM TO ANYTHING.

Totally serious, by the way.

Pretentious jerk.
