But come on now guys... Those tactics would have won a lot of collage games you have to admit that. Maybe you just don't understand what they were trying to do?
It's a huge surprise they did not keep up the intense level of high output energy shown in the first 35 for the whole 90 minutes...
We had one bad play in the middle 1/3 gave up the ball while moving numbers forward and they played forward with no pressure right up the middle (our holding mid never pressured the ball, he dropped instead) they then had the time and space to find the play and played over the top of the defenders (who forgot to stay with the forward moving attacker) and they won 1-0...!
Klinsman is getting his lesson in how to create a system using "top" american players (who make small technical and tactical mistakes often) very quickly... We are not Barcelona and may never be.
Costa Rico was not even a very good team this time.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens next in Belgium on Tuesday.
433 Looked like Barcelona... On paper!
If your not the best technically skilled team in the world then, defend to win.
Another prett average effort today. Not much teeth in the attack. Altidore is Altidore. Shea and Beckerman had a few moments off the bench but both of them had good looks on goal and missed terribly. I am having a tough time with the goal Belgium scored on whether it was a good shot or bad goaltending. I know when its wet the ball has a tendency to skip a bit and I think Howard saw it late and then it skipped under his arm pit.
Either way, we didn't do much with our corner's and never really had too many good chances. I'm not sweating till we start qualifying - I know how this goes, get lots of guys with minutes at this stage. We will probaly qualify for the WC but without 1 or 2 solid strikers, we won't go very far.
