Nice crowd for the game tonight. And a nice game for the crowd at that. I guess the weather and the performance finally worked out for the "Family Night" promotion. Imagine the atmosphere if we played in an appropriately sized stadium (say 5,000?)

Here's hoping we get to see at least one more home game this season.

Kudos guys. Not sure what what everyone else did but Roch also had over 7,000 on Friday night and we had over 2K for the second straight match (really good for us).

Sadly until we have a new stadium our only small stadium options are Sportsbacker(The main issue is parking with a Squirrels game) or building onto Ukrops park. I agree a 5,000 or 6,000 stadium would be good.

It feels like we have to come up with something sooner or later. City Stadium can't have that much longer, can it?

If we're gonna wait out metal bleachers and concrete we're gonna lose. I'm not sure we're gonna get a new stadium from the city unless part of the stadium collapses during the game and Kickers threaten with lawsuit. Interesting enough if you look at cities that gave their teams hard times it usually took something happening for a new stadium to be built.(Just for note I hope nothing ever happens at city stadium. At least nothing with anyone there.) I just think it will have to be funded by the Kickers for it to happen. Squirrels will win the stadium competition with claims of higher attendance and more money. They may do a lot of promos to get people but they can use that argument against the Kickers all day and the city will listen. We all know this and the RTD articles about the new ballpark in planning for 2014 says it all.
----

You know if they wanted to keep the Kickers where they are if they could somehow take city stadium apart one side at a time and put in soccer specific bleachers that would work fine. They could take down the rising bleachers first and put in the new side. When they finish that the fans sit there while they do the half circle side. The Kickers could still play there while construction was being done. The location isn't bad but the stadium needs to be completely redone and perhaps a Kickers sports bar or something that overlooks the game.

I certainly wasn't thinking about city/county handouts. Especially in this economy and the heightened sensitivity to government spending. I was wondering more about what they could do with the big complex the Youth Club has by Chippenham Parkway.

Or maybe we wait until the Squirrels move and play at Sportsbackers? I think the City has it's own ideas about redeveloping City Stadium.

its funny though, the City has plans for the Stadium sight, but the area residents would rather have the stadium then an extension of Carytown shops. It'll be an interesting battle and in true Richmond form,<sarcasm> it'll probably come down to how close of a relation the proposed property developer is to the mayor. Immediate family.. will be carytown shops.. when you start getting into 2nd and 3rd cousins it could be a 50/50 thing </sarcasm>

And the latest proposal I heard had a new Squirells stadium partially or totally overlapping the Sportsbackers site. So that might even be an option anymore

Overlapping sportsbacker? What happens to VCU's team? Sportsbacker is the home of VCU soccer. Where the heck do they think we're gonna play? Do they expect VCU to give up its nice home to go play at city stadium? The walls of Sportsbacker are even lined with VCU soccer accomplishments. I'm sorry but I don't like this idea that you just knock VCU out of the way for the Squirrels. Perhaps this is why VCU has been interested in city stadium. I wonder if they see the city screwing the soccer team so they plan to buy the land and develop a new stadium for VCU soccer(and I assume the Kickers as well).

i think the plans called for rebuilding relocating SB somewhere close by, but they seem to have learned from their last mitake when they town Park Field and had to rush the stadium construction because the Diamond was in exact same spot. This time, if they build a new stadium, they'll won't do that, so the new stadium couldn't be exactly where the Diamond is now. so they were thinking of somewhere over in the area of SP and the City building are for the new stadium, then once it gets built the flying tree rats would move there, they'd tear down the Diamond, and the space for parking and a "new" Sportsbackers. That might indeed leave VCU to play at City Stadium one season or so.. which would ROCK i think.

Well if they indeed build a new sportsbacker that would be fine it just seems weird to have a proposal that tears down a young stadium(Sportsbacker was only built in 1999). I just don't think any permanent relocation to city stadium will work for VCU. i got a feeling VCU and VCU athletics would fight that to the death with the nice stadium we have now. I think VCU would live with a year or so of playing there though. Perhaps the Kickers and VCU could come to a agreement that would allow them to work together on a new stadium they could share. All I know is that VCU's soccer program has been trying to rebuild to get back to where it was as far as being a soccer power in the CAA and having a good attendance. If its soccer fans hear we're losing our young stadium and we're going to city stadium those efforts will take a hit. I'm not taking a shot at city stadium but just saying that fans have gotten very use to Sportsbackers.(Honestly I think most of us would take a stadium made in 1999 that gets updated over a 1930s stadium that is in need of repair) I think they could live with a year or so if they know they will have a new stadium soon enough. I do think if a new Sportsbacker is built Kickers should move in with VCU.

Im not worried aboput where the Kickers play right now. The one thing I know is THEY WILL PLAY. This club is very conservative, which I like. They do things the right way and take their time doing it. With that said I forsee something at Ukrop Park or maybe even a tie in with Sportsquest. I prefer Ukrop park mainly because I would like it to be soccer specific.

Kind of off topic- So you have the CornerKicks and La Brigada Roja(I could be wrong but isn't that the name of a terrorist organization?) in a corner. Now we have another group I heard about too. I don't know the name of it though.
