Our magnificent season ended last night in the sweltering heat & humidity of MacPherson Stadium, Browns Summit NC, each and every player on both sides fought with every muscle & sinew drained of energy & sweat in an enthralling South Atlantic PDL play-off decider that tested the abilities, character and mettle of these young (and in Cristian's case, not so young) athletes.
From the get go the teams went for the throat, it seemed apparent that chances were going to be few & far between and the first goal may well decide the match. Within 5 minutes the Royals' Scott Mitchell went clear, but his mishit shot sailed wide & high much to the home fans relief.
The only goal of the game came in the 25th minute when the highly impressive Robbie Lovejoy managed to get a lucky bounce from Steve Duran and raced on to slot the ball under Calle Brown. It was no more than he deserved on the night with his efforts being the real difference between the two sides.
Good luck to the BBQ in Long Island this weekend, I'm sure they will do our division proud !
