Seattle Sounders or DC United?

I have two very good offers for ski management work at award winning companies after this long fruitful and epic winter season we just had.
Seattle WA or Washington DC, that is the question?
-Both have MLS teams -Both have strong youth soccer programs -Both have a lot of customers with plenty of cash to keep the business working strong -Both have decent economic conditions considering what is about... -Both have great water (kayaking) near by, but only one has warm water -Both of those water locations are filled with subs from nearby navy bases -One has two great ski areas about an hour away, the other has the cheapest flights to the Alps and their ski season sales would be over by Mar 1 every year. -Only one has huge mountains for summer playing up high -Only one will most likely pay a lot more (the one without the huge mountains nearby to play in)... -I have already lived in one of those states and it was very wet, gray, cloudy, and gloomy in the fall and spring, the other has something I really hate, politicians with too much money and power -One is about 2,500 miles closer to my girlfriend and would be a much easier move for her...
Maybe it's a bit too early to make my decision this year, more opportunities in better ski culture locations will pop up later in the fall. I might just go back to sitting on my fence again. I was kinda hoping to get back out to California again someday.
Feel free to add your own knowledge about those areas, positive or negative I know nothing about the East coast but love going to new places.

I've lived in Seattle for 2 years in the 89 & 90, the rest of the time from 68-89 and 91-now have been in Richmond. One is in an area that has been known to close schools on the mere threat of snow, both areas are known to panic when the white fluffy stuff actually falls.. and by panic I mean everything from public transport to shoe stores close. One has hellasious heat & humidity in the summer, heat index in Richmond if supposed to hit 120 this weekend, the other seems to have skipped summer time this year. Both are ridiculously expensive to live near. A trip to DC from 100 miles in any direction can take between 2 hours to 5 hours or so depending on traffic. Seattle is a little better but not by much. One area has volcanoes and is subject to earthquakes from time to time, the other is a prime target for hurricanes. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Yep, kinda why I was asking others for their opinions, you are not the first person to explain how expensive DC is, thanks Mikeyratt.
Nether is really a great option for someone like me. If there was soccer in the middle of Nevada near the Ruby mountains far away from people I would go there in a second. But apparently you need a lot of people around to start a decent youth league and have someone else to play against. I'm thinking the best decision may be, to not make any decisions at this time.

you're welcome to come down to the RIC and catch a game next season. We might not be as big time as DC United, but we have just as much fun. And you can't really beat $12 for a game, and there are usually discounts on top of that.

It took a little longer then expected to find the place to live but I'm on the road in a day or two to find new adventure out east. 5 home games left in the season before the MLS playoffs start. http://www.dcunited.com/schedule?utm_sou...aign=Navigation GO STARS!

DCU is my favorite MLS team but I have only seen them live once when the 'Hounds played in USOC (2003) and that was at Soccerplex. Been itching to head down there again. May finally have to go down when they open their new stadium...in Baltimore.
Ok seriously, KC and DCU are the 2 most dangerous teams in the East now there is a lot to like about their chances. In the playoffs the young gk could be an achilles, but perhaps they have enough veterans on the pitch and in the lockeroom to keep him on an even keel. DeRo was a solid pickup. I am sure the BarraBrava crowd has room for one more.
Be safe.

I went to a DC United match a few years ago against Cruz Azul and had a great time. My opinion is that RFK Stadium is in terrible shape and a renovation is not an option. However, the location for the stadium is great-with the sole expecetion that it is located inside the District.
I think the next best option would be for a new stadium near the Waterfront area, or Navy Yard--not to far away from the Nationals ballpark. Having lived in DC for a period of time, that area really turned around (to some extent) since the Nationals moved into the area.
I would be curious how a stadium location in the Greenbelt area would work. That would not necessarily be a central location. However, it is a better neighborhood that most in DC. If my memory serves me correctly, there is a huge green space near the Green Line stop that is also accessible to the Beltway.
The key is to place it near a Metro stop. The Metro stop near RFK is still a decent hike. However, if it is not near a Metro stop nobody will go because traffic is so terrible.

Just put it somewhere close to a Metro line. NOBODY likes dealing with the Beltway, even on good days.

I found a place to live based on not having to drive on the bad roads to and from work. I'm only 10 minutes away, commuting was the number one concern. The Metro looks easy to use and safe, I'm also close to a station. Amazing that the place all of our state reps join together to solve the countries problems has so many of them to witness up close while they are there.

Don't drink the water out of a drinking fountain within the District. It has been labled "unsafe" for years. Also, be sure to check out the following bars: 1) Cafe Citron 2) Madam's Organ 3) The Third Edition (visit the tiki bar) I also recommend Harry's Saloon for a quick lunch--near the FBI building. If you go, say hi to Chuck!

Here is an interesting article I received via SoccerAmerica today regarding DC United and their stadium options. Quite frankly, I think they are in a no win situation out in DC and think there would be a good chance of them moving. Washington, DC is messed up and it takes an Act of Congress to get anything done--most of the time quite literally. The public drinking water is unsafe, you are crazy to go into some areas in the middle of the day and RFK is a downright terrible stadium. It also looks like some of the crowds and been very light as of late--for example their last home match against the Portland Timbers. In my opinion, it is time for DC United to move!
