Qatar is believed... to have invested in soccer infrastructure in the home countries of FIFA executive committee members whose votes it wanted to secure.

While those investments, if they occurred, would not violate FIFA’s bidding guidelines, they do raise questions about the integrity of the process.

Blatter conceded on various occasions this year that Qatar had colluded with Spain and Portugal... to swap their votes despite a FIFA investigation that last year concluded that there was no evidence for the alleged swap.

The lack of real will within FIFA to tackle what appears to be a permissive atmosphere that has seriously tainted the organization’s image and raises serious questions about its commitment to transparency and accountability is reflected in the fact that Mr. Blatter’s unashamed downplaying of the swap, a violation of FIFA rules, was a minor issue because it had not produced results. Equally unchallenged is Mr. Blatter’s admission that FIFA’s investigation of the swap was effectively a farce.

We know Sepp Blatter all but conceded that collusion took place between Qatar and Spain. "You find collusion in politics, in elections, when two parties are enemies during the year and then they run together," said Blatter, a fortnight before the vote in Zurich. We also know that since the announcement there has been a series of Qatari sporting investments, with a £125m Barcelona shirt deal and the purchase of Paris St Germain among the most eye-catching. That is merely following a trend evident during the bid itself.

The shirt sponsor on the Barca shirt will now represent Spain's collusion in taking the 2022 bid away from the USA and planting it firmly in the summer oppressive heat of Qatar... Way to go Spain!

Paris St Germain as a team will also represent the same thing.

I will no longer be a fan of ether team. I will still respect the players and the play but the team/country reps to FIFA will always represent a sore spot to me from now on.

Barcelona have a sizeable debt but now claim to be "the undisputed brand leader in world football".

In July, an audit revealed Barcelona's debt to be £369.5m after a loss of more than £64.36m in the 2009/10 season.

Barcelona have ended their long term stance of refusing commercial shirt sponsorship by signing a record £125m deal with the Qatar Foundation.

The new sponsorship arrangement could free up some transfer funds for coach Pep Guardiola - who worked as an ambassador for Qatar's successful bid to host the 2022 World Cup.

Senior club executives said the deal was a "remarkable milestone because it represents a record level of revenue for a football club and has more value still in the current economic climate".

THE biggest immediate beneficiary of Qatar's success in winning the right to hold the 2022 World Cup may be Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane will be $15 million richer after the Middle Eastern nation snared the right to host the first Middle Eastern World Cup.

Along with Zidane, Gabriel Batistuta, Pep Guardiola and Ronald de Boer are Qatar's highest-profile ambassadors and - like it or loathe it - the millions spent on luring them worked wonders for Qatar's bid.

Paris Saint-Germain have announced that Qatari investors have bought a controlling 70% stake in the club, ending months of speculation about who the Ligue 1 outfit's new owners would be.

PSG's former owners, the American group Colony Capital, revealed back in December 2010 that they were looking for new investors and that search has reportedly led them to Qatar Investment Authority, an investment arm of the Qatari government.

The cynical football fan might say that there is no such thing as a bad time to have your club bought up by the richest people on Earth, but if such a time exists then, for Paris Saint-Germain, that time is now.

The first two signings made by the Qataris, Kevin Gameiro and Leonardo (as sporting director) come across as very sensible people to bring in, and both have a connection to the club (Gameiro as a supporter, Leonardo as a former player). But rumours are already circulating that coach Kombouaré will be replaced (by Carlo Ancelotti) and that all sorts of players will soon be bought (an eclectic mix including Dimitar Berbatov and Ganso).

Leonardo, 41, left his post as coach of Inter Milan last month having long been linked with a switch to PSG, where he spent a year of his playing career, but it has taken some weeks to formalise his move to the Ligue 1 club.

As he was unveiled to the press, he said: ''I'm really happy to be here. I have strong memories from my 14 months in Paris. I always thought I could come back but I did not know it would be like this. 'It was not easy for me to leave Italy. In Paris there is much to get to grips with, to do; the club has been bought.

Interesting to now find out that the Spanish, Portuguese, and the French were the real problems with us getting a fair bid for another US World Cup!

2022 bid Dec 2ed 2010

"We didn't come here with that intention [to discuss Portugal's sovereign debt], we came here to launch" a commercial relationship with Qatar, José Sócrates said after his economy and tourism ministers signed bilateral agreements with their Qatari counterparts.

Mr. Sócrates said that Qatar "is also looking at investment opportunities" in Portugal. The government has launched a privatization program aimed at selling its stakes in companies such as power grid operator REN, energy company Galp Energia SGPS SA and power utility Energias de Portugal SA. The proceeds are expected to be used help lower the government's budget deficit.

*I guess it too bad Greece and Ireland weren't also included in the FIFA Vote method... Humm?

It has been reported that it was suspected that Qatar spent over 100 million on their bid for the 2022 World Cup, now it looks more like it may be more in the neighborhood of a Billion when it all over and done with... ??
