The Montreal Impact’s reserve team played its first game of the 2011 season on May 6. However, the players have been training all winter with one objective in mind: continue their development in order to become a professional one day. Working with each of them daily, U21 Academy head coach Philippe Eullaffroy noticed, in just one year, that many young players have realized that their dream could become reality. After existing for a few years as the Trois-Rivières Attak ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trois-Rivi%C3%A8res_Attak), the team was repatriated to Montreal for the start of the 2010 season. This decision turned out to be a judicious one as the proximity to the big club helped the players realize how close they were to their dream. “The young players become more conscious of the fact that they would be given an opportunity to play with the big club,” said Philippe Eullaffroy. “This idea was reinforced because some of them practiced with the Impact at the start of the season, and some were even added to the game sheet for the team’s first game.” Proof in the pudding: while in Tampa Bay for the team’s season-opener on April 9, Mircea Ilcu made an appearance in the game, while Kevin Luarca, Amine Meftouh and Karl Ouimette were on the bench. Reserve team players regularly practice with the first team with head coach Marc Dos Santos at the helm. http://www.montrealimpact.com/News/News.aspx?language=EN&ArticleID=1621&Focus=0
