I am not certain what a PRO Leauge is, but I am sure it is super exciting.

"2011 debut of USL PRO, which will be governed by team owners and present the highest level of competition in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean outside of Major League Soccer (MLS)"

Sounded like USSF Div 2 to me but USSF Div 2 in 2012 maybe...? - It would make sense to delay the Application at first IMO & USSF could always APPOINT them as Div 2 if they chose to - It;s not like the remaining NASL USSF Div 2 Teams (IF their are ANY in 2011) are really gonna be any better than the Div 3's anyway ~!

Given the new USSF guidelines for USSF Div 2 the USL really did'nt have a tough decision here at all IMO ~! - It was already made for the Leauge & the Owners - When the true Powers That Be hand you no choice it aint REALLY a decision that's needed.. just a plan & this plan should work - I can't WAIT to see the NASL's "plan".

This is pretty much what I expected USL had to do, and I think this may kill NASL2 which would mean no Division 2 next year. I would think this league, with it's lower financial committment and travel costs with it's regional setup, would be a more attractive options for some of the less stable NASL2/USL1 teams.

The USSF's new standards were basically a put-up or shut-up to the NASL2 group, and I think they won't be able to commit 8 teams to those standards.

NASL is mostly mirth-inducing at this point, but the above assertion strikes me as a distinction without a difference. Was it not a put-up or shut-up to USL2 teams as well? Isn't USL PRO an admission that USL does not have 8 teams that meet those standards?

Well, that is a valid point, for sure. They (the USL) were also unable to satisfy those new standards at this point in time.

Their strength is that they have the ability to restructure and survive quite nicely when all is said and done.

And we have all proven time and time again we don't really know what's going on.

Why would USSF not sanction one group to be Div 2?

One group is attempting to talk it through, (maybe they know something we don't?). The other knows they can't make it and has decided all on their own to go their own direction without even attempting to asking for sanctioning (maybe they know something we don't?).

That all says a lot to me...

Fact: USSF wants a second league for their own reasons, for the future of American soccer development.

USL has no intention of being involved in anything other that what benefits them.
I know one thing for sure, you never get what you don't ask for!

USSF
State run youth leagues
Academy team leagues
YNT
Second division
First division
MNT

USL
On their own, finally out of the loop!

*The divorce is now final, one side decided they don't need the home anyway it's not worth fighting for and they now go their separate ways.

USSF also doesn't want a Division 2 league that can't get through it's first season, which is why they set the standards high for the new Division 2 requirements.

And I don't see NASL2 even in the ballpark as far as meeting those requirements with eight strong, stable franchises.

And yet they are sitting down to talk?

It's sometimes amazing what two groups of people, who share a common goal, can accomplish when they get together to talk about the future.

Because they dont meet the standards the USSF Set up. I think USSF would rather not have a D2 league in 2011 than one that doesnt meet the standards they set up. Why would they go through the hassle of the new standards only to let them laspe the first year?

USL is asking for santioning, just not for D2 status.

I believe USSF says they are interested in a strong lower level soccer, that includes USL

Im not sure how you come to this conclusion, USL has been huge in the development of USSF MNT and WNT. several MLS teams have academies that are in the SYL or PDL. Thre has been alot of talk about the D3 level being the most likely spot for the MLS reserve teams to play.

On the last USMNT squad, there were 13 players that played under the USL umbrella during their development.

Or maybe the USL recognizes the reality of the situation that they don't have eight teams that can meet the new USSF Division Two standards.

So how long until NASL2 realizes the reality of their situation?

If I had to guess, I would say the realization will come when it it too late to effectively change course. Although I hope I am wrong.

"For us, the most important thing here is long-term stability. What we think we’ve achieved today is a short-term solution for the 2010 season, but we want to work with a number of people and all the teams to find a long-term solution so we don’t have teams changing back and forth between divisions".

Q- On any plans to integrate a reserve league with Division 2 and MLS:

“In the short term, the answer is no because this is just the 2010 situation. I think in the long term, you are going to see some things happen",

"The most critical part of this will be the investors in these teams. We are happy to play a continual role given our mandate and our charge and we are critically interested in player development. On that note, I should mention that there will be a developmental element to this Division 2 structure".
