USA MNT Passing stats for WC 2010

CI Overall Ranking #, Name - Total passes, Overall Passing Rate %/ Short%, Medium %, long% / crosses, rate %

68 Michael Bradley- P= 215, 71%/ 50%, 80%, 43% / C= 2, 50%

69 Steve Cherundolo- P= 234, 70%/ 77%, 75%, 43% / C= 13, 31%

97 Carlos Bocanegra- P= 171, 71%/ 65%, 79%, 53% / C= 2, 0%

119 Tim Howard- P= 153, 58%/ 100%, 95%, 43% / C= 0

128 Clint Dempsey- P= 157, 60%/ 54%, 64%, 48% / C= 5, 0%

138 Jozy Altidore- P= 93, 52%/ 59%, 57%, 15% / C= 6, 33%

146 Jay DeMerit- P= 162, 77%/ 83%, 81%, 58% / C= 0

178 Jonathan Bornstein- P= 102/ 66%, 70%, 68%, 50% / C= 6, 17%

253 Benny Filhaber- P= 65, 63%/ 75%, 74%, 0% / C= 2, 0%

257 Maurice Edu- P= 111, 73%/ 75%, 79%, 41% / C= 0

344 Oguchi Onyewu- P= 86. 71%/ 89%, 77%, 27% / C= 0

***387 Robbie Findley- P= 39, 49%/ 50%, 50%, 33% / C= 1, 0%

***403 Ricardo Clark- P= 46, 52%/ 57%, 58%, 17% / C=0

***466 Herculez Gomez- P= 19, 53%/ 50%, 58%, 0% / C=0

***475 Edson Buddle- P= 14, 43%/ 100%, 38%, 0% / C= 1, 0%

*490 Francisco Torres- P= 30, 83%/ 100%, 93%, 43%/ C= 1, 0%

533 DaMarcus Beasley- P= 4, 25%/ 0%, 0%, 100%/ C= 0

533 Stuart Holden- P= 1, 100%/ 100%, 0%, 0%/ C= 0

My Conclusions,

-USA finished 12th

* Francisco Torres should have played more in this WC based on his passing stats (not taking into account playing style and system tactics plan).

*** Robbie Findley, Ricardo Clark, Herculez Gomez, and Edson Buddle (and Jozy Altidore even with CI #) still need a lot of work (forwards do take more risk when attacking the goal but still need to make good decisions and then execute them).

- Any player with an overall CI player rating # of less than 200 and also an overall passing rate % of less than 70% = let his team down in their own personal performance on the field during the 2010 World Cup.

Stats mean nothing, in the end the US failed to live up to it's potential, the same as many other teams did.

Stats tell us nothing about who will win or lose a game you are correct, but they can be used to look at player performance and team performance which is why FIFA and their technical report group use them to write the technical reports of the games played.

And yes, all teams fail to live up to their potential except one in every tournament. That one would be the team that ends up as the winner.

I would argue that point. New Zealand batted well above their average, and Ghana did exceptionally well too.

All the semifinalists could claim to have reached their potential. Uruguay qualified as a wild card, Germany had a young team and no Michael Ballack, and Netherlands reached its first final in 32 years with a 35-year-old left back and trailer trash in the central midfield.

And "America is not a soccer nation" and yet the TV ratings went through the roof, the Internet use for streaming games was something completely new as far as the numbers on ESPN's site, and non fans seemed to know what was going on throughout the entire event's 30 days.
So maybe we didn't win the World Cup as Doc expected to...? But we did win the harts and minds of a lot of new potential fans of our sport so maybe we did accomplish something better than was expected after all.

Seems jw having conceded his war with Bernie is trying to pick a fight with the rest of us.

I never expescted the US to win the world cup, but as a side they failed to live up to the expectations of their #14 ranking.

They scored a fluke goal against England, struggled in the end to draw with Slovenia and were a mere minute or two from going out against Algeria. They were the only group winner not to win their 2nd round game when they lost to Ghana.

Can you really say the US played as well as you had hoped ?

Nice to see you won the female deer though, (harts ?) and as much as I would love to see it, can you really say you expect the tv audience to stay with the game, much less get off of their sofas and actually go watch a match ?

More stats which 'prove' that the USA were a bunch of dirty sods and can't kick straight compared to England....

US 14 fouls (2 offside) 66.8 % passing success.
England 12 fouls (5 offside) 77.6 % passing success.

See what I mean about stats in general being worthless..

ok, I'm posting this here because I see no threads for it.
The U.S. lost to Qatar in the bid for World Cup 2022. There are positives and negatives, which I won't go into the full list.
But I notice many comments on the negative side and many inquries, some with vaid points.
But one thing to keep in mind as the FIFA continues to try to promote soccer to new lands is that many countries laughed at us when we were selected to host the 1994 W.C., and look how we thrived with the MLS(which still has critics, but can't argue with the permanent homes that have and are being built)!
