I would like to see the Stars/Rochester Thunder continue their exhibition matches, and have it a yearly event--or maybe even a home-home series. They could call it the Minnesota Cup, or something like that, and have a traveling trophy. If it was home-home, you could have it an aggregate goal competition?

I guess you could call it the Minnesota Debry, by that sounds, well, too European?

Thoughts, comments, other suggestions?

I think the idea of a Minnesota Cup is a great idea. MN Soccer Guy can enter his team and we could see just how well they do against the Stars. grin
If, of course the Stars even played their starters in a game so small and unimportant to them. laugh

The Minnesota Cup began in 1962 and is open to all men's amateur teams in the state. The MN Cup is administered by the Minnesota Soccer Association, which is the governing body of adult soccer leagues in Minnesota, and is the organization by which adult leagues are affiliated with US Soccer and with FIFA.

I like this idea. I would also like it if the Stars played in league with Rochester and Des Moines. Places one could actually drive to.

So I guess it's a rec league MN Cup then... grin

Were talking about a real MN Cup where all teams including pro teams would play to see who s the best. Why would the adult state cup not allow pro teams and still call itself a cup tournament?

The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is open to all teams, amateur and pro. A separate amateur competition through the United States Amateur Soccer Association (USASA) began some time later, with four regional champions facing off for the national title.

Ok, we both now agree then, it's a rec cup for rec teams that don't want to play against the better teams in the country, but still want to win a big trophy like all the kids get in their tournaments. smile

NSC Stars Scott Lorenz and Max Lipset, and perhaps others, currently are registered as amateurs.

But unlike most amateurs in the MN State Rec Cup they also get play with the pros now. They registered as amateurs when they got of out high school as do all players that want to play as much as possible.
