Matt and others- My guess is that if this were to happen the financial cost to us (supporters/volunteers etc...) would be minimal, or non-existent. If this were to happen I would expect the NSC to pay for it, due to the fact that they don't have anything right now. Unless the Thunder come through As for now, lets not talk about money and talk more about exploding fireworks and other items that might be needed. Zath- Thanks. Do you have a link?

The thing with the clock is that if the scoreboard is going to be on top of the Schwan's Center, an analog clock would need to be really big to be visible - larger, I would think, than a digital one. Maybe I'm misremembering the dimensions of stuff, but that's what it seems like to me. The Millerntor has a somewhat larger capacity than the Nessie, but I feel like it's more compact, and I think their scoreboard is right up at the south end of the field ( see); we'd need to take the larger footprint and distance to the Schwan Center into account when thinking about visibility questions. This picture suggests St. Pauli's clock was (I'm estimating) at least 3 feet across, maybe more, based on comparison to the people. (I say "was" because according to Wikipedia, St. Pauli put in an electronic scoreboard in 2007). So I'm a little skeptical on the analog clock idea - although I endorse it, don't get me wrong! I definitely think the manual scorekeeping would be sweet, too. A cannon would be a nice touch too. Count me in for further discussions.

Oh, and Tarkus, stop trolling. Reading your post was a waste of time.
Bullsear, a note: Tarkus and others occasionally demonstrate their sense of humor here on the boards. He's not a troll. He's quite handsome, actually. Has anyone talked with the powers that be at NSC for their thoughts on scoreboards? At the supporters summit, I heard there had been discussions with manufacturers, but that's as far as it went at that time.

Gumby- The NSC is aware of our idea and they sound receptive, but at this point it is still just an idea.
AJ- Lightning Striker has some clock ideas and is working some options with proper sizing. His ideas sound brilliant and perhaps he can share them, if he would like.
All- The Scwhans Center roof is far away, but it also provides a structure, so none would need to be built (hand items off the side) this would be the cheap route, but I personally believe the ideal location is on the East touchline, or as Seamonster pointed out to me the other day on the SE corner where the current golf cart scoreboard resides.
How high in the air would a structure need to be to be like the St. Pauli one? 8feet? 11feet?
I know that some of our friends have visited that one in the past. Perhaps they can tell us what they remember?
It should be remembered that this is just an idea at this point and NOT FOR CERTAIN.
The only thing we know, for sure, is that the NSC has heard from numerous people about the need for a new scoreboard, and expressed a small afinity for manual style boards. Since we had a fun time discussing it previously I thought we should give it a whirl.

Yes, I would like to share a sketch showing manual scoreboard in Southeast corner: Getting pricing for outdoor clocks from Lumichron in three different sizes (3', 4' and 5' diameter). With a special face with the first 3/4 hour with only minute marks, and the final 1/4 hour for stoppage time. This is similar to what may have been seen in old fashioned stadium.

Larger version of aboveAfter having seen this, I totally dig this idea. You'll need a ladder of some sort on one side of that platform, of course, or perhaps a ladder underneath with a trap-door arrangement. Maybe the platform can be made a bit deeper to hold a couple of easy chairs, and you could have a drawing for the "best seats in the house" or some such.

Behind the East stands would be great for everyone, except those in the East stands? I'm sure they might also want to know what's going on.
