According to Michael Lewis @ www.bigapplesoccer.com, FC New York has narrowed down their candidate list and will name their head coach soon?

I wonder if they have any other candidates or this is it?

Will they announce it on their super-cool website?

(Interesting that if they do announce a coach soon, they'll be way ahead of Tampa Bay, despite TB having been announced well before NYFC.)

With the Red Bull folks A) Opening a new and apparently very nice stadium and B) Ready to actually pay attention to its team in New York for the first time, this might not be the best time for a start up soccer venture in New York City.

But...but...wait, Nathan...everybody says the CITY of New York has to have a team! That there are millions of fans just waiting for a team IN THE CITY.

Honestly, if the MetroBulls hadn't been such a colossal clusterbomb since Day One, most of those people would have been fine with it.

I had forgotten all about that. My bad. I had thought that the original FC New York concept was to play in the city proper. The last time I was out there Hempstead still had not been declared a borough of NYC.

But you wait...if they put a team IN New York City, as long as it's in an acceptable borough, and the team is named Cosmos, and they consult with the fanboys first on every move they make, all those millions of New York City soccer fans will be turning out en masse biweekly!

You gentlemen clearly like each other lots, but let us leave aside the chucking of toys out of the stroller for a minute. And I include myself in this admonition.

In your opinion, what is the point of having a start up team called FC New York, with a Queens crest, playing on Long Island, at the exact time that Red Bull is going to start throwing cash around?

It was you, actually. Most of my best stuff is inspired by your idiocy and, now, persecution complex.

You're an idiot, jw7. A complete and utter moron. You have no knowledge of anything. You're not even funny, which would make you palatable.

I would say either there is no point, or the people of FCNY and USL believe that the pie is big enough in New York for them to get a big enough slice to be able to sustain themselves.

Positioning themselves as "counter-programming" as it were, I guess. Only they're not going about it very well.

At the end of the day, FCNY appears to be nothing more and nothing less than a wannabe, poorly-put-together club that's going to play in virtual obscurity on Long Island.

That's actually how the Cosmos started, if you recall. But you could do that in 1971. Harder to do it in 2010.
