I am 21 years old and i forwarded my cv to the coach and he has informed me that i could just come to the formal combine in march to try for a place in the team.the thing is i really want to do this but dont want to throw money down the drain getting there and paying for the tryout for it to come to anything as i have very talented friends go over there to america and they said it was a waste of there time. they are currently back playing in the division 1 and 2 in england.can anyone give me any advice as i would love to come and compete in america

Hey! are you from England? If you are you can tell the Coach were your from and that you wish to play Pro in the U.S. Do you Play in the Second Division? If you do,I'm sure you will do fine my friend.

I have informed the coach of my past career and thats when i got the invite to the combine in march.yeh im from England. Thats the thing i have just finished my study and just need a new experience but dont want to waste a good part of 1000 pounds getting there for it to come to nothing. As last year i payed for a trial in virginia for them to have no international spaces left on the team it was a shambles. they told me to come back this year but i dont want to waste money, thats the thing. do you know if there are alot of players at a formal combine? thanks for your help

Hey yeh ive looked into your academy and it looks all very good, i dont know if that academy would be right for me tho. And to be honest i dont want to pay all that money for something i am not sure on. It all looks very professional tho. However it doesnt give me enough to go on, like has any past players from the academy gone on to now play pro in america or other countries. these are all things me and my parents have concerns about.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience last year GERRARD. You aren't the only person to have told the same story about that shady combine in VA last season. Another foriegn player told me the same thing.

I personally wouldn't invest my money to come either after hearing of such shabby treatment from a club that played in this league. I'm sure that they aren't all so dishonest. Hopefully you can find a real opportunity here.

Another approach would be to try and get an invite to a player combine. That way it's more than just one team looking at you. Unfortunately, the next big one is Dec. 17-20 and by invitation only. See the attached links...

Sorry you had such a bad experience, but I was chuckling a bit about the situation of no international spots left because of the irony that so many American players find the same thing when trying to play in England/Europe (work permits are a bitch for us to get).

I wonder if it's too late for you to get into the Umbro showcase in Tampa Bay, as it is a combine for many teams, not just a single club. That might be the most affordable option for you.
