Loc: San Fernando Valley
San Fernando Valley (February 28, 2006) – In front of a packed conference room at the Chatsworth Radisson, President Mathew Davis officially presented the San Fernando Valley Quakes to the greater Los Angeles Area. Over 120 people packed into the room to see an event revealing coaches, players, uniforms, sponsor programs and the mascot.

Also in attendance was Vice President of the United Soccer Leagues, Tim Holt, LA Galaxy VP Tom Payne and several of the clubs major sponsors, including ReMax and Adidas, The Printing House and Xtreme Soccer.

Mike Pries from Remax, the club’s title sponsor, announced the signing of a 3 year deal. Pries said “We are truly excited to be involved in this venture. We have great confidence in the management team, and we look forward to a successful season and beyond. Go Quakes”

Announced at the event was the hiring of Head Coach Ali Khosroshahin from the Mexican Women’s Federation as well as head coach of the Cal State Fullerton’s women’s soccer program. Khosroshahin expressed his desire to play an attractive brand of soccer as well as his excitement at coaching a men’s program again after being so successful on the women’s side of the sport.

Vice President of USL, Tim Holt, who flew in from Tampa to attend the event stated “I am excited to see such a professional display from a new franchise. I am confident that the team can perform both on and off the field. If this event is indicative of their organizational skills, then the San Fernando Valley can look forward to a very successful soccer team this summer.”

The Quakes unveiled 12 of their signed players at the event, including from UCLA, Greg Folk, Maxwell Griffin, Kiel McClung, Kamani Hill and Mike Zaher. Additionally, Shawn Franklin, Kevin Guppy ,Taylor Canel, Matt Tracy and Derek Hanks all from Cal State Northridge were announced. Rounding off the group are Jamen Amato (Boston College) and Adam Sloustcher (University of North Carolina).

Finally, the club’s as yet unnamed mascot showed off the new Adidas home and away uniforms that the Quakes will be wearing in their inaugural 2006 season.

Davis commented, “We are very excited with the development of the club both on and off the field. We have been blown away at the welcome the Valley has given us and we hope to repay that welcome with a competitive team playing in a entertainment driven atmosphere this summer”

Quakes season tickets are currently on sale. For more information please call 818 322 3210 or visit the quakes website at www.valleyquakes.com

The SFV Quakes are definitely building a very solid soccer club in Southern California. However, I know some fans in San Jose are a little upset about the name choice. Nevertheless, I wish the Quakes all the best. With the addition of the Seals and Quakes this will be a very competitive division -- should be fun to watch this summer!
