Maher named MISL defender of week
Former Baron shines in back-to-back West Coast wins
Matt Maher (Temple Univ. / Cape May, NJ) was named the MISL Defender of the Week for the week ending January 5. He led the expansion New Jersey Ironmen to back-to-back road wins over Monterrey La Raza (Dec. 27) and the California Cougars (Dec. 30). He tallied six blocks against Monterrey, and helped the club to a 24-15 victory at California, putting the team one point shy of first place in the MISL.
Former Baron called to U.S. camp
Jeremiah White (Wake Forest / Lansdowne, PA) is one of 26 players who have been called into the United States’ National Team camp in preparation for the January 19 friendly against Sweden. White, who spent the 2003 season with the Ocean City Barons (then called the South Jersey Barons), helped his club AGF Aarhus earn promotion to the Danish Superliga last year and has continued to play well in his first season in the country’s top flight league. The FC Delco product is only one of three European-based players called into camp at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., all of which play in Scandinavian countries which are currently in the midst of their winter break.
"I’m very excited about it," said White. "This is my first call-up to the senior national team, and I expect to go in and work hard and I think good things will happen."
After a successful career at Wake Forest, White was drafted by the New England Revolution in the 2004 Major League Soccer Superdraft. Instead of joining the Revolution, he decided to ply his trade overseas which included stops in Serbia, Greece and France before landing in Denmark last season.
