The Royals reverted to their early season form tonight as an Islander side cantered to a 7-0 win, the only bad thing to say about the Islanders was the booking of Sideshow Bob hair-a-like Shane Crawford.
The team that had so valiantly matched the Eagles last night were a pale imitation of themselves. Tony McPeake was absent tonight, but with both GR Cannon & Josh Witham back in defence the buzz was if the Royals could match last nights play they might get something from the game.
This illusion was shattered in the 10th minute as Steve Fisher was left unmarked in the box and duly rifled home the ball. The only real surprise seemed to be that the Royals managed to hold on till the 35th minute when some theatrical diving by Mo Odour led to Josh Witham getting booked for apparently putting himself between the attacker & the ball. Forgive me but where I come from that is called defending. The decision duly stank as Chad Severs stroked home his 10th of the season to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead. This became 3-0 in the 40th minute when Severs set up Sumed Ibrahim for his 9th of the campaign.
Halftime came and went with disgust amongst the Royals’ fans, playing 5 in midfield surely meant that one of them could pass to a fellow blue shirt ? The Royals could not manage a single shot on goal during the first 45 minutes.
It only took five minutes of the 2nd half for Fisher to head home an O’Neill corner and make what was a contest a mere formality. The 64th minute saw Severs round the Royals’ keeper to make it 5-0.
The rout was on and in the 78th minute Jimmy Stone scored his maiden goal to make it 6-0. And there was still time for Bernie Showers to have the freedom of the penalty area, take all night and make it a magnificent 7 for the Islanders.
The Royals travel to the Hounds & the Kings in August, one sincerely hopes they discover the recent form, performances like tonight do not bode well for them averaging less than 5 goals against a game.
