Don't know much about the Spurs but there is some sentiment among posters to the USLDiscussions group that Memphis, Texas, and New Orleans all have strong teams. Others give Nashville a chance.
The Spurs have only a few June home games but the best weekend may be as follows:
- Sat Jun 28 8:30 PM Memphis Express at Texas Spurs Univ. of Texas-Dallas Stadium
- Sun Jun 29 3:00 PM Nashville Metros at Texas Spurs Univ. of Texas-Dallas Stadium
Whether or not these teams can provide a good game depends on several factors. Memphis seems fairly deep but has been hit with what some fans believe are 3 undeserved red cards in 3 games. Their number one keeper has sustained a stress fracture and will be out for 6-8 weeks, or so the doctors say. Fielding the best team among their players may become a problem if the trend continues.
Nashville is off to a good start but will lose players later in the season to "real jobs" and other unspecified absences. Plus Nashville will be playing their second game of the road trip with less than 24 hours of rest, something that occurs only in the USL. Take a look at how the Spurs fare in the coming weekend with Nashville and Memphis for insight into how these back-to-back games affect a team's play.
Depending if both teams can keep it at a high level June 28 and 29 would be my recommendation for some good games. Keep a look out here and the
Memphis Express and
Nashville Metros websites for the latest news about both teams. There is also an
unofficial Memphis Express website that is informative from a fan's point of view.
