Welcome to USL-1 and hope the Team does good in their first Season.

Does anyone know what Stadiums they will be using?

I found 2 possible Stadiums that they could call Home.

Texas Memorial Stadium.
Capacity 82,123
Home of the Texas Longhorns Football Team

Texas Memorial Stadium

I doubt they will be using this Stadium because its to big.

Mike A. Myers Stadium
Capacity 20,000
Home of the Texas Longhorns Soccer Team

Mike A. Myers Stadium

This is the Stadium i believe they will be using because its mainly used for Soccer and is the Home of the Longhorns Team.

There's only a couple grass stadiums around that are the right size. Regarding Texas Memorial stadium -- L O L. They're in the process of remodeling it, and once they're done it'll hold 100,000. It's absurd to even think about using that one.

Regarding Mike Myers stadium... I suppose maybe. But I've heard that UT won't ever let anyone use their stadiums. I've heard that the Dynamo tried to use it for a game against a Mexican club team, and they weren't able to. So if MLS can't get it, I have a very hard time imagining that the Aztex can.

Plus, y'all know what the average USL-1 attendances are. Even a 20,000 seat stadium is a little big for the 4,000 or so that I expect the Aztex will draw.

There are three HS stadiums in town that might work -- that is to say, they're grass. House Park (holds 6,000, but is a bowling alley -- very skinny for soccer); a stadium up in Pflugerville, and one out in Del Valle. While they're in the suburbs, those suburbs are pretty much in the midst of a good bunch of people now, so they might be OK. They're a good size, and should be able to accomodate soccer a little better.

Other than that, it looks like everything has gone artificial. I'm personally preparing myself to see the Aztex in one of those fields next year.

They are supposed to be announcing the U23 team's stadium for this year soon. It'll be interesting to see where they end up. Last year, the Lightning were all over the place, and I quickly gave up on trying to follow them.

Texas Memorial Stadium is defiantly off limits. That's hallowed ground for the Longhorns. No one would ever consider a minor league soccer team for admittance.

HOWEVER! If the team could fill the stadium to a decent attendance, it would be so freaking awesome. Just the way the sides rise up in the student sections and how you can see the city and the capitol. It would be an incredible experience. Wouldn't count on it though.

I've had further confirmation that UT will never let anyone else use their stadiums. Not even Mike Myers. I guess they're starting to feel the pressure of competition for the Austin sports dollar.

Like anyone would ever think of anything other than the Longhorns for #1 in Austin.

I've learned that House Park will be converted to artificial turf this summer. And it's a real challenge for parking. If the Aztex drew the 4,000 that they should, it would be a madhouse around House.

Pflugerville stadiums can only be rented a month ahead of time, so that lets them out for the Aztex. Starting to look like they'll be at Round Rock, Del Valle or Nelson Field.

Dell Diamond is the home of the AAA Baseball Team and it seats 11,000 a good size stadium for a USL-1 Team.

Also you have the Athletic Complex that also seats 11,000.

But isn't Round Rock about 20-30 minutes from Austin?

It depends on where you are in Austin. Just like all relatively large cities.

We'll see what people think of Round Rock. The U-23 team is going to be using Dragon Stadium in Round Rock this year.

As for travel time, I live near Highland Mall. I've been in Austin long enough that I can't say whether it's North or Central Austin. I expect it'll take me about 15 minutes to get there... but I'm right on I-35.

It's solid city from Austin to Round Rock now. There's no real separation anymore.

Dell Diamond, from what I've heard, is a nice stadium. Haven't been up there.

What 'Athletic Complex' are you referring to that seats 11,000?

To start, I think they should look at House Park

http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=8

It's natural grass and the 6000 capacity is a perfect size for a new USL Div 1 club. A big selling point is the central location (very close to the University).

http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&q=1301+Shoal+Creek+Blvd+--+Austin,+Texas+79703&ie=UTF8&ll=30.278674,-97.750109&spn=0.003224,0.005021&t=h&z=18

But hey, I'm thousands of kilometres away, so I can't really tell how skinny it is from the satellite shot.

I'm just happy to see a club coming to your groovy city.

A lot of us were pushing for House Park.

It's pretty skinny, but it's a perfect size.

There are two major problems with it. One of them will (depending on your opinion) go away after this summer:

1. They're converting it to artificial turf this summer, so it wasn't available. I don't know exactly what kind of artificial surface is going to be used, so it may be out forever. All Austin school district stadiums will be artificial after this is done. Kinda sad... but now that lacrosse has been added to the HS athletics, it's pretty much a necessity.

2. Parking. The stadium holds 6,000, but there's probably, realistically, parking for only 1,000, if you stretch. Even if the school district built a parking garage right next to it, the roads going in and out wouldn't carry that capacity very well.

So, no telling what the team will do next season. A lot will depend, I expect, on how this season goes out in Round Rock.
