I am putting this here because I was not sure where else to post these questions.
I've followed this board for a long time and know that the majority of the people that actively post here are real fans of soccer here in the USA and want the game to succeed....but I guess I'm asking the following to anyone/everyone on this board because I'm really very curious as to the answers people put forth.
The following questions are NOT geared towards MLS - that's a different creature and only applies to certain markets....and I want to gear this only towards PROFESSIONAL soccer here in the USA.
So, given what seems to be an annual fluxuation of the USL's 1st & 2nd Division teams...
1. How far (in miles and/or time) are you willing to travel to support your local/regional professional USL team? (I don't mean going to away games, but the closest home facility.)
2. How much do you think is a fair price to pay to attend a USL 1st or 2nd Division game? a. Season Ticket b. Flex Ticket (package of 10 tkts good for any home game) c. Individual game adult/youth ticket
3. How many games per season does a person need to attend to be considered a "true fan"? (Granted, nobody can make every game - life does seem to get in the way at times)
- and if you can't make that many games, what are other things that you can or may already do to help support or promote your local club?
I hope that everyone can take a few minutes to really think about these questions and post their answers here. My intention is to find out what works and what doesn't - might be some really great ideas can come from this that can be forwarded on for future use!

1. 30-40 miles max (assuming that means 30 minutes to not more than an hour commute), but obviously the closer the better. 2. Not more than $10 per ticket, $5 or so for kids. Average that with a bit of a discount for the season tickets (number of games vary). Discount about at season ticket price level for flex tickets. 3. Good question, depends on availability. A true fan does his/her best to participate, which might include following in the media, attending as best they can. True fan has to be individual fan dependent - but for market purposes I would shoot for 25% of games or more. Just a gut feel - you could crunch numbers for a better gut read on what is needed.

1. If you ask ME... it's MORE than the 425 miles I drive from Boise to Portland at least 8 times a year.
If you base a team counting on trips longer than 30 miles, however, you're silly. I've got evidence that more than 20 is pushing it, depending on the metropolis, available transit, etc.
2. I'd pay more than the $10 per season ticket I'm, well, sort of paying this year, though I probably wouldn't fork over more than $200. I'm not about to assess who'd pay what for season tickets OR flex passes. It's not like I scoffed at paying $25 to be in LA a few years before Becks arrived. I'm the sucker who'd pay double to stand in the vicinity of where I currently do at PGE Park.
3. Advice from Portland: the way I read your "true fan" comments is more an exhortation. Timbers Army grew because people were themselves... and didn't acquire an organization and too much of the clique-ness that goes with it. There may be cliques, but we knew going in that we accepted everyone we could get, a philosophy that hopefully doesn't go away sooner than what some desire. In short, it's better to develop fans than to ask that question.

Soccer has come along way! MLS has only folded 2 teams in 13 years when they did not really have to. Colorado, and KC have always drawn poorly until now, Dalles drew poorly until now!, With the new stadium attendence seems to be on the rise.
The Key to succes in MLS is
1. Soccer Specific Stadiums owned by the team or the league (Or long term lease) 2. Consessions to goto the teams! 4. Dont Mess With Soccer History Re(seattle/SanJose) 5. expand SLOW! BUT follow Logistics! 6. Dont Overspend the payroll unless you have sponsers to cover part of the players checks! 7. Sponership, advertising, and of course Marketing!!!!!!!!
Now this is only logical and if you cant use logic then you have NO bussiness running a sports league or sports team.
Just my 2 cents worth

Did you really respond today to a topic that hadn't been updated since April 2008? Really?
