I am curious about this statement to open the thread.
"Considering the current economic crisis should Marcos & Holt reconsider hiking up (reportedly almost doubling) the USL expansion franchise fees???"
Do we have a link to verify this info or is it more speculation? How do we know they are trying to up the cost of a franchise?
As well, does anyone really know what a USL-1 franchise cost?
Sorry but I do not have a link. I will look for one. I can't remember where I first read it. I have a read it a few times on line.
It was supposed to be a step that Marcos & Holt were taking to try to weed through owners who just wanted to jump into ownership of team without doing due dilligence (just think California Victory or maybe even Syracuse Salty Dogs).
It was also supposed to capitalize on making some more money from potential markets like Arizona and St. Louis that didn't have the enormous amount of money that MLS was asking for but could easily pay double what the USL had been asking for and push some of them to "get off the fence"...
Maybe a savant like GS-1 has a link.
