Seriously, as a hardcore "regionalist" or "nativist" or whatever term you want to use-- those lines about the "northern scum"--well, let's just say that they are still controversial to say the least. Not because many of us don't consider ourself southerners but because they seem really very harsh and outdated. Except for when Yankees and Red Sox fans invade Camden Yards. Then they are pretty much AOK. [Roll Eyes]
I think the lines are meant to be harsh. You do realize that those are the lyrics to our state song. Besides, you don't have to consider yourself a southerner to resent the way the heathen mercenaries from Ohio, Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and central Pennsylvania came in and massacred the peace loving humanitarian protesters in the streets of Baltimore. Why I remember it like it was yesterday.
