I just wanted to put in a good word for Western Mass after worrying about my safety beforehand. They have a nice stadium and the fans were very much into the game, in a positive way. After I finished taking pictures at the half and started leading the small CP contingent in cheers the kids in the section next to us starting doing their own cheers for the Pioneers. Pricless! It's good to see the kids get involved. Our Eagles played a solid game with a few missteps here and there. Brooks legs have really started to find form and he was making runs to clear space and take balls in a less static position than in his previous games. After a bit of a slow start to the match Josh made some great runs down the left side to create service opportunities. Marshall in the back also played well, maybe his best game of the campaign, anticipating balls on his side on a regular basis and making solid forays forward with those interceptions. The two reds were bogus. Matthew's was for a foul from behind after he had been fouled from behind twice in the same sequence without a whistle. Abe's came as he was stepping over a player who was kicking him as he tried to move away. The referee, who really disrupted play with too many whistles at the beginning, maybe trying to avoid the pushing and shoving that occured at the last match between the two sides, became terribly inconsistent in the second half. Unlike some who may have seen a home town angle to his calls, I think he really either lost concentration or just control of the match. I hate to criticize officials, it's the worst job at a match to have, but when the bad calls result in the potential for injury it really bothers me.
