I won't be able to unless my wife picks a fight with me this week (which is very possible because she doesn't realize how good she has really has it sometimes).
It is my anniversary and there is no way that will want to go down to Richmond to see CPB play the Kickers. Maybe I could sell the Puerto Rico Islanders to her but she doesn't have any sort of connection to CPB (yet). Not even if I were to take her for an early dinner and afternoon stroll in Careytown before hand.
I sort of floated it out there and I got zippy response but we still don't have any plans for the weekend other than our daughter spending a few days in Alexandria with my sister in law and her hubby.
I'm not trying for any drama but unless I'm getting undeserved grief at home, I can't pull it this time.
Hopefully next season.

Still working on the wife about this weekend. What is the atmosphere like in Richmond? Would most likely be bringing along my eight year old, and he has been kinda sheltered from profanity at this point. Hoping to hold out on that 'til he's at least a teen. Went to games in Harrisburg last year, my brother lives there, and it didn't offer much atmosphere. Been priming the wife and son with the Crystal Palace "Glad All Over" recording from their '90 FA cup appearance and should be in semi full throat next time out.

sometimes its a little too quiet but its definitely 8 year old friendly, theres even a kids zone in case he gets bored. We even keep the heckling fairly clean down in the corner

Jake, I have been to Richmond a couple times as a visiting supporter and once to support the Kickers for a playoff game against the Whitecaps. If you have ever been to a minor league baseball game, it pretty much has the same enviroment. Fans don't drop bombs (swear). The worst I think that I heard was a Corner Kick (who shall go unamed, hollering some very unkind insinuations about then Vancouver keeper Josh Wicks). It is very family friendly. They will probably draw about 2000. If your wife sort of goes for a sort of trendy, upscale bohemian sort of neighborhood, then she might dig Carytown. It is a neighborhood about 10 minutes from URI stadium. It is kind of like Charles Village or Mt Vernon or the regentrified Fells Point or Canton areas of Baltimore. Or a bit like South Street in Philly but not so overwhelming. There are great restaurants and shops to check out just to kill time. The weather is supposed to be great. Here is the link http://www.carytown.org/ Maybe you can take your wife to Carytown for a nice meal and a stroll before the game. Just a suggestion...

Guilty as charges. I never promised NICE, just clean-ish. I DO plan to heap a pile amount of aggro on a certain Palace defender who shall remain nameless (I'm sure you know who it is). I'll refrain from sheep references for this game though.

Here's the last match report. http://www.uslsoccer.com/stats/2007/385793.html If your wife sort of goes for a sort of trendy, upscale bohemian sort of neighborhood, then she might dig Carytown. It is a neighborhood about 10 minutes from UR stadium. It's more like two minutes, although traffic on that street can move slowly with the pedestrians and yielding to parallel parkers. The stadium is only a few blocks from Carytown. There's even one of those brown signs on the side at the intersection of Cary St. and the street which takes you right to the stadium. They do have some parking decks behind some of the businesses, and there are signs to direct you there, but I'm sure Carytown.org has all that info.

Rest assured:
The unamed Lad can hold his own with Mad Mike and anyone else.
When it comes to CPB, that's "my guy".

Ok. It's official. I can't make it down for the game tonight. My wife made reservations at an Afghan restaurant in downtown Baltimore at kick off time.
I don't havethe skills that Big Dave has. Unless my wife picks a fight with me by 4:00, the away leg of the Border War is a no go.
I hope that we win. We should have some more confidence now that we have put the ball in the back of the net and some guys have gotten the monkies off their backs.
I love sports cliches...

Sigh, my hopes for attending have been similarly dashed. Remind me again why people marry? Thanks to those who pointed out places of interest in the area to go pre-game. The wife is in Richmond from time to time for business so we'll try those later. Hope it's a great game!

Hey, I'm single, live IN Richmond...and still have to miss the game. For me it's "remind me again why I have to work a real job?" (something to do with paying bills, eating, having a roof over my head, etc, I'm sure)
Sorry that we didn't get to meet in Germantown

After consultations, I retract my original statement, and no, there isn't room for another single guy in Richmond.

I never said that I was single yet. That all depends on my wife and if she keeps trippin'.
I'll still support Puerto Rico Islanders FC tho.

Hate to add something goofy here, but was sorting through stuff at my folks and got out my old Subbuteo guys from thirty years ago. Wouldn't you know it...one of the teams is Crystal Palace. Freaky. They'll be brought along on Saturday with other teams as well for anyone who'd like to try their hand at table soccer. Gonna try tailgating with the wife and boy and see how it goes. If I can get them out of the house on time anyway. Look for the big blue canopy and 3' x 5' homemade Palace banner.
