Jake, I have been to Richmond a couple times as a visiting supporter and once to support the Kickers for a playoff game against the Whitecaps.
If you have ever been to a minor league baseball game, it pretty much has the same enviroment. Fans don't drop bombs (swear). The worst I think that I heard was a Corner Kick (who shall go unamed, hollering some very unkind insinuations about then Vancouver keeper Josh Wicks).
It is very family friendly. They will probably draw about 2000.
If your wife sort of goes for a sort of trendy, upscale bohemian sort of neighborhood, then she might dig Carytown. It is a neighborhood about 10 minutes from URI stadium. It is kind of like Charles Village or Mt Vernon or the regentrified Fells Point or Canton areas of Baltimore. Or a bit like South Street in Philly but not so overwhelming. There are great restaurants and shops to check out just to kill time. The weather is supposed to be great.
