Cleveland defeated Harrisburg 1:0

Though this puts Cleveland in first place (for right now), it is actually a fairly good score for us. That was Harrisburg's game-in-hand on us and should put our destiny back in our own hands. Cleveland only has one more game left to play (against us).

Current Standings:

Cleveland 38 pts 19 gp 10-1-8
Richmond 37 pts 18 gp 11-3-4
Harrisburg 35 pts 18 gp 10-3-5

As far as the easiest path to getting a home game for the semis, it was the worst result. Even with a win over W Mass, we still must not to lose to Cleveland. Had that game been a draw or Cleveland loss, then simply beating WM guaranteed us a home game.

But yes, it did put everything, including regular season title, back in our hands if we win out.

Thanks for explaining that Doug. It just looked good to me when I saw it this morning, even without us being in first place.

as leigh said last night, we cannot play Cleveland in the semi finals... which means Harrisburg can't win the division. We need 1 point on Sunday for glory!

Richmond and Cleveland cannot finish 2nd & 3rd. Ok lets go to the math here.

the standings now are
  • 1. Richmond 40pts +22
    2. Cleveland 38pts +17
    3. Harrisburg 38pts +12

(Providing Harrisburg beats CPB next weekend at home, which isn't a given)

Harrisburg would have 41, Richmond 40, Cleveland 38
but Richmond & Cleveland play each other.
If Richmond wins they'll win the division with 43 pts.
If Cleveland wins, They'll win the division on tie breaker having beaten Harrisburg in the head to head tiebreaker.
If Richmond and Cleveland draw (and Harrisburg wins)Richmond will win the division on the 3rd tie breaker, after head to head (split) and # of wins (each would have 12) which is goal difference right now that is +22 to +12. But I seriously can't see CPB losing a game 11-0.

Thanks for the detailed explaination. I guess Richmond and Cleveland will meet in the finals after all smile

Let's not get ahead of ourselves yet. Harrisburg split home and home with the Kickers, and had the better of the play (but not the result) this Friday at Cleveland. If the City Islanders beat CP Baltimore on Saturday (no sure thing), they lock up the #2 seed and will have a home game against the Richmond-Cleveland loser (Cleveland if it's a draw). Harrisburg is still unbeaten at home this season. And while Charlotte is not the Eagle team of old, they still have playoff experience, something Cleveland doesn't have much of if they can pull off the upset against Richmond on Saturday. So don't buy your Richmond vs. Cleveland finals tickets yet.

Hey guys good luck this weekend. It is going to be a fun finish a great playoff whoever is matched up in the first round. It is fun to have 4 teams all capable of winning it all able to compete for the championship. Pass on well wishes to all the CKs and maybe we will see you in the first round

Thanks, YT, you are always a class act. Best of luck to the Eagles, except of course, when they play the Kickers. wink
