I think there are a number of opposing players and coaches who would take issue with that statement! laugh

This announcement was all over WRVA news today, sometimes even with a clip of comments by coach Cowlishaw.

I suggest buying early, not at the gate, and getting there early. I think this could be a record breaker if that kind of exposure to the event continues.

According to my Google alerts email, there was something ("Tech to play Kickers in benefit game Tuesday") about the game on the T-D site yesterday, but apparently it got lost with the new site launch. The Hokies have a press release about the match on their site:
Richmond Kickers to host Hokies in exhibition benefit match
Proceeds will go to Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund, two MLS teams to hold fundraisers

Pattie, it was actually accessible from the "new" site but only briefly. I didn't bother posting it at the time because it was just a rehash of the press release itself. The next time I went back, the clickable link was gone.

Its going to take me awhile to get used to their (the TD's) new site

I'm glad this is getting exposure smile

Cheering for the Kickers, of course.

As far as colors, that too is an easy choice for me as I don't have anything orange or maroon. I might see if I can find/make some type of ribbon to wear though

Kickers win 3-2. The game wasn't as close as the score. It was pretty much Pros against Collage players. Not to take anything away from the Tech players.

It was a big crowd. VERRY pro Hokes.

Second half many subs for the Kickers.

Mike Burk man of the match. All over the pitch. GREAT goal off a Nutter- unassisted.

Good night for the Kickers, maybe we'll get a few more fans.

Cooter and the crew worked for free-nice of them.
Good Job. I'll rate them one half seeing eye dogs(Mike wasn't there).

All in all a good night to enjoy Futbol.

I just read the press release and wanted to say congratulations to the Kickers for putting on a wonderful event that surely touched many in your community, and will undoubtedly benefit the victims of last months tragedy.

I may be far away, but I haven't forgotten about you all! smile

it was a great game. lots of people, lots of money for a good cause, and nice for a change to cheer for both teams! that kid #12 for tech was awesome. and he's only a sophmore.

also, it was cool to see shramm #9 (schramm can also be used as a verb, such as "man, charlotte just got schrammed!" so i'm hoping he gets more playing time) and #20 who i thought was bulow but now i don't think so. i thought i heard the announcer say freddy smith? somebody fill me in. we seem to have an endless amount of good/fast/talented mid-fielders/forwards. jaman played well, too. i could go on and on.

any of you guys thinking about going down to wilmington on saturday?

You are right, #20 was Freddy Smith.

We had 3 new guys last night:

#25 - Garth Juckem (who started)
#20 - Wilfred (Freddy) Smith (came in for Burke at the start of the 2nd)
#4 - Eric Szeszycki (came in for Juckem in the 80 minute

I read about the match and it's good to see the Kickers honoring VT. I'm glad to see soccer(both Richmond and MLS Houston) reaching out to help VT.

It's good to hear from you Amanda! You're only far away in distance. We know you are still here in spirit! (By the way, does Clint know?)

It was a fun experience last night and the mood was great. I had many people (like Suz!) "overpay" their ticket price to increase their donation. I'm very proud of the Kickers and the fans for making the night a success!

Looks like the Kickers raised more than the Dynamo (not that this is a competition, but kudos to the Kickers staff and everyone who came the other night). From HokieSports.com:
Pro soccer clubs raise nearly $40,000 for Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund
Men's soccer team battles Richmond Kickers before 4,000 fans

My match photos are up:
http://public.fotki.com/pattiea/soc/2007/070501/

I'm selling these just above cost (that way, Fotki tells me I have to upload the full-size original if anyone places an order), so if you purchase photos from this album, please consider making a donation to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund:

Photos are finally up

05012007 Kickers vs Va Tech - Exhibition

These are strictly game photos. I do have photos from warm-up, crowd shots, player introductions, presentation of the plaque, etc, that I will eventually get uploaded also - though probably in their own album.

I wasn't that happy with these photos overall though I did manage to luck out and get some fairly good shots too
