OK. We made it to the game this evening, and I have to say that it is really strange being the only fans in the stadium! We got quite a few looks! We did get to go down on the field after the game and the players seemed quite amazed to see fans other than family that was there. Leigh and Jesse came and talked to us when they saw our Kickers garb. Leigh said he had heard cheering for the Kickers so we at least made ourselves heard! Burke also talked with us and made a point of interacting with all our kids. What a nice guy. It was so AWESOME being at a game again. Sure do miss the soccer in Richmond. . . .

I'm curious, you moving to Ohio from Richmond, does that mean you will not be cheering for the host Kings at all this season?

***END OF PLUG*** Woo Hoo! Atlanta lost to Hampton Roads 2-1, so they'll be looking to pull even with the Destiny in the division Sunday evening. The Destiny with a win could pull into a tie for the division and league-wide lead (although they will have two games-in-hand on the division co-leader Charlotte).

Great result! Would like to hear from Ohio Kickers fan some of the plays of the game. what happened on the free kick? as for visiting games on the road, i have heard the kickers are usually quite appreciative. burke is a class act. always seems to shake hands with the opposing team (like the shell shocked Long Island sub goalie their first meeting) and always time for the fans after the game. In fact, many of the players take time after the game for the kids. great fun for the family.

Of course, did anyone else notice that Ihor got the start yesterday? I'm sure you've already checked but for anyone interested that hasn't had the time to look yet, yes Leigh did go with the exact same starters. Ihor played for 72 minutes before being replaced by Wolfe. Other subs were Neagu for Burkie (76 mins), Kofi for Carrieri (61 mins) and Lewis for Sse J (88 mins)

We may go to some games to get our "soccer fix", but it will be a long time before I could root for the Kings like I love to root for the Kickers! Richmond was our first major involvement with soccer and that holds a special spot.

Wafflesaurus does not understand that once you follow a team, as a fan you DO NOT flip flop from team to team, but stick with it through good times and bad.
You might not have the same, wife, job or house in 20 years time, but a true fan will still follow their team.

In fact, many of the players take time after the game for the kids. great fun for the family. Sorry about that. Goofed on the last post. Still getting used to it. Burke's goal was a beauty of a line drive high and in the back of the net from about 12 yds in from center line. First time I saw this defensive line and thot they worked together very well. I think Cinci played better 2nd half and we seemed to be reacting defensively vs. dominating offensively in 1st half. Ssej just couldn't seem to get free and didn't seem to have much help up front 2nd half. Ronnie had some amazing saves 2nd half that kept us on top. 5 mins stoppage time was brutal when Cinci had dominated 2nd half. Ihor took pretty hard hit that resulted in yellow for Cinci so will be interested to see how he is. Enjoy UR Stadium--great set-up. We sat on a VERY steep hill for 90 mins with 3 y.o. because of very limited bleachers. And they served alcohol. Made for some mouthy fans. . .

Thanks Ohio! Other fans have posted out of town game observations and they are greatly appreciated. Wouldn't half mind seeing a game in Wilmington and then hitting the beach...

do you think serving alcohol at a sporting event is bad? i realize that it does loosen tongues, but having it there is a nice perk for fans.
its great to see fans of opposing teams in the stands. when minnesota came for an exhibition game there were some thunder fans that drove down following the team. like doc says, thats dedication. i do hope you make it out to some more kings game if only to help support soccer in Cincinnati. i don't care what team you support as long as you support the Game everywhere.
also, the free kick was good. i was on the opposite side of the field, so got a different perspective. it looked like James was out of position, too far towards the center of the goal. he almost got a hand on it, but Burke placed it very well.

Kings would not swear, his Mom would box his ears for him.

[/b]I did hear some expletives up on the hill, as did my oldest daughter. Not tons, but none is my preference when there are so many kids around. Did not see any drunken behavior. I just think it's a bad example to kids when the adults are screaming like maniacs at the refs and alcohol tends to fuel that fire. Granted, there were some iffy calls against Kings. I think it is so important for the adults in stands be modeling sportsmanship, as well as the players on the field. That was one of the things that bothered me most in Richmond--at times it seemed like our players argued EVERY call the ref made and it was a horrible example for the youth players there. I think it's a universal problem that we need to be very aware of. Guess the "mom" in me is speaking. . . . . . I would definitely go again if our schedule permits. Kings had some great plays and quality players. I always appreciate a well-played game even if my team isn't playing. . .
